    Hello ladies,
Were getting married in a catholic church in December :) I was baptized when i was a baby and was never brought up as a practicing Catholic, when i was 14 i moved to a catholic church which is when i began exploring the faith and choose to get married in a catholic church when we got engaged. We spoke to the local priest which said that H2B had to be baptized (non-catholic) before he would agree to marry us! Which my H2B agreed to :). Neither of us have ever been to a catholic wedding so dont no what to expect.......we need help

This weekend we went to see our priest, which we spoke about having a nuptial mass wedding, when we asked me timing etc he just said there was no rush :/ how long is the service, what should i expect etc.

With us getting married in December i thought it would be nice to have Christmas carols which guests will recognition, but the priest laughed and gave is a hymen book and said we should look at other hymens :/ again haven't a clue what to choose :)

    EDIT MODS
PLEASE SELECT THE CORRECT CATEGORY BEFORE POSTING, IT HAS BEEN AMENDED THIS TIME
    THANKS

Hymns not hymens! Lol that gave me a giggle (sorry)

I've been to one catholic wedding and it went on for over an hour! Needless to my bu++ was numb! But they did have the full shabang with communion and everything... But at the end if the day it's up to u but if u have a lot of small children going your ceremony will probably be disrupted xxxx

its about 1:15 depending on your priest and its its full nupitals! which as a catholic id imagine youd want! if you look at the back of the Hymn book there will be sections for communion etc and for weddings i think! you should see if they have a choir they can help with knowing what hymns go where! was your h2b church of england or had no faith at all? xx

Your Priest should be able to give you a wedding book and that has all the bits of the wedding in there. You can choose whether or not to have a full mass in your ceremony or not, we decided against it as the ceremony will probably last an hour anyway and we are pushed for time as we can no longer get married as early as we had wanted.

And I can't see a problem with carols if that's what you want, perhaps have another chat with your Priest, be sure not to get railroaded by him and explore all options before agreeing to things, it needs to be how you want it. xx

Catholics have a very particular way of doing a wedding and you have to agree or often the priest won't marry you. You have to out notice in with your register office though. Te catholic priest may expect you to attend marriage classes, have certain hyms, readings, and attend church regularly. Also my friend and her fiancé were expected to be living apart for 2 weeks before the wedding however I think this can be discretion of the priest. I suggest talking to him and seeing what he wants as every church may be different.

We are having a Catholic wedding in 25 days time! H2b is not RC but doesn't have to7be baptised in the church although he is baptised in the Methodist Church.

If you're nervous about anything don't be, we have had a fairly easy time with sorting things out apart from some delays in the paperwork but not anything major!

Hymns is easy. Check out Catholic wedding hymns online.

    We're having
Make me A Channel of Your Peace
    Lord of all Hopefulness
Guide me O Thou Great Redeemer

The Priest will make suggestions to readings and prayers so that's easy too. You will have to go on a marriage preparation course though.

Let me know if you have any questions, I'll try help xxx

I'm getting married in a catholic church and have been to many catholic weddings. You can expect the service to last approximately 1 hour. Then you will sign the register and you'll have the chance to have photos taken before leaving. Altogether, you'd be looking at 1 hour 15 - 20 mins. Usually, the new bride and groom will stand at the back of the church and greet each guest as they are leaving. The amount of time taken will depend on the number of guests you have.

There are some beautiful hymns that you can choose from. I would suggest that you speak to a musician who is familiar with them to choose what you like. I'm having quite a bit of instrumental music.

In terms of the structure of the wedding mass, you don't have a whole pile of choice. You can choose your readings, the first reading must be from the old testament, the second must be from the new testament and the gospel must be from Matthew, mark, Luke or John. I've popped in the structure below:

    Introductory rite
Lighting of the candles (2 candles)
    Penitential rite
    Gloria
    Opening prayer
    Readings and gospel
The rite of marriage (confirms you have come of your own free will)
Declaration of consent (the vows - you will have three to choose from)
    Blessing of rings
Exchange of gifts (optional, groom gives bride a token of all he possesses)
    Lighting of the marriage candle
Prayers of the faithful (you can choose your own. Ur they must be approved by the priest)
    Offertory procession
    Liturgy of the Eucharist
    The Eucharistic prayer
    Communion rite
    Nuptial blessing
    Rite of peace
    Communion
Communion reflection (optional - you can choose the reflection but must be approved by priest)
    Prayer after communion
    Concluding rite
    Final blessing
    Signing of the register

Most priests will let you play music other than hymns after the final blessing but you will need to check with the priest.

Most priests will also need you to attend a mass in the church you will be married in when they are announcing your marriage. They will announce your marriage for 3 consecutive weeks. They are usually happy if you only attend one of these.

Let me know if I can help at all.

We also got given the option to have a full wedding with mass, just a marriage service or the marriage service with holy communion without the mass, we opted for the last option as it means a lot to me to receive communion on our wedding day but 95% of our guests are not Catholic so didn't want them to have to sit through mass.

We are also marrying in a different church to our parish church as I wanted to return to the one I was baptised in and received my first holy communion and also my parents got married there! My parish priest sorted out the paperwork and the parish priest of the church we are getting married at does not require us to attend mass there, however it is a legal requirement for you to obtain the marriage license when you give notice at your local registry office xxx
