Me and my HTB would both like to get married abroad with just close friends and immediate family. A catholic ceremony is very important to us both but I have been unable to find anywhere apart from Cyprus that we could have one. Does anyone know how easy it would be to organise this or have any ideas where else we could get married. We were looking at Antigua ideally. Also if we were unable to have the catholic ceremony abroad and had a civil one instead can we have a catholic one when we come back or would it only be a blessing we would be able to have? Only been engaged a month but so excited to get planning!

well italy is a definite country you can as they are predominantly catholic and i believe zante you can aswell. antigua/jamaica i would say is unlikely as they are christian and quite strict . any strict rligious countries i.e turkey ,india, jamaica , and the like are unlikely to do it as they tend to stick with their own religion or non religious ceremonies. If you get married abroad and then you could not have a catholic "wedding" at home and some countries cancel each other out !! but you can have a blessing .
One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!

if you have a civil ceremony abroad that is your legal marriage ( providing it is recognised by UK authorities ... not every county is ) this means that you cannot have a second full ceremony here but can have a blessing
I am sure you can in Italy. Look up weddings in italy there are lots of planners out there that will help. The first time i was engage we spoke about going to venice to get marrid and the girl i was in contact with was really helpful xx

I think it will depend very much on your parish priest who will have to complete paperwork plus additional paperwork for you to marry outside of your parish. Then will also depend on the parish priest of the church you choose to marry in.
Hubby and I chose to marry in the parish church my parents married in, where my sister and I were baptised and I had my first holy communion. My local parish priest took some convincing to do the paperwork, he was quite resistant to it but the priest who married us was really cool about it all. We didn't just get married outside the parish, we married in another diocese, where we live we come under Brentwood but married in the diocese of Westminster.
I think it may be possible to have an RC wedding abroad but it will take a lot of help and perseverance along the way. Have you spoken to your priest about it? He may be able to help. Alternatively there is a Catholic marriage site I think that may have a number you can get advice from. Try g00gl1ng Catholic m@rr1age c@re.
The other alternative is a civil ceremony abroad with a blessing in the UK.
