I have been looking into caterers for my venue..

Whilst i am looking for specific cuisine namely African Caribbean...

What kind of prices are you/have you been quoted per head for your caterers..

Our wedding breakfast will be around £36 per head for a 3 course meal, with evening buffet £13 per head (although we are not catering for everyone for the evening buffet - probably around 75% of our guests). This is our venue's own catering though. I imagine you would find a much more competitive price using external caterers x

Oh wow.. and here was me thinking 20 - 35pp was a lot... lool... it appears average

im thinking im going to have to cut down my guests for the evening dinner as it is going way over my budget if i cater for all 125 guests.

It will depend on your venue too, some only have one in-house caterer and others have a preferred supplier list.

I have located the venue i wish to book and have an appointment next week... they have advsied that should i wish to use external caterers, there is an additional charge of £300.00....

Not entirely sure what thats for but its just not in line with my budget... but i have my heart set on that venue...

It is likely to cover hire costs of using their kitchen. Also, they'll be losing out money if you use another caterer.

Speak to them when you view the venue and see if they can be flexible with the menu. Ours did the canapés as all Chinese/oriental style so that we had some food that was reflective of my family's culture, we then had the traditional English wedding breakfast. Initially the canapés menu was all western style.

A lot of prices per head are actually a lot more than ours, we wasn't going over £50 pp though, and that was it. Our caterer was fantastic though x

Ours is £89pp bit we have no venue hire costs so we are literally paying 89 x number of people for the whole day and covers honeymoon suite for the 2 of us aswell.

Definitely speak to the caterer at the venue you want and see what their menu options are.

The venue that i have selected (not booked-but want) they have no catering options, they have sent me a list of the caterers that they work with, decorators etc.

So iv enquired with those companys and iv seen a potential which is £25.00 per head... which i guess is quite reasonable now iv seen what others are paying..

but the venue fee, the venues fee for using external caterers and then the caterers fee and decorations fees, that alone has gone over my budget... so im really starting to worry... as there is still.. well everything else...

I don't understand how they can have no catering option yet charge you £300 for use of their kitchen etc?

With all the different costs per head for catering, it really annoys me when people just do not bother turning up. If only they realised how much we had lost out on on ours, and most likely many other weddings as well.

Nobody realises how much they cost to be included in a wedding do they!

Our package for 50 is £3100 but have about 68 altogether and each extra person is £45. Up to £5000 for overall venue costs including day and night.

    woooooow..... so expensive......

iv seen two menus that i really like... one at 20 - 25 per head and another at 27 -- the 27 being the preferable one...

im catering for 100 with an evening buffet for the later guests... but still undecided which menu...

i still have to consider alternative caterers....
