My H2B and I went to have a look at a venue at the weekend and we both had a really good feeling about it. However, there were 2 obstacles...
1) Not sure if there is enough seating for the evening reception as dance floor is very big which is brill as it's in a converted barn but concerned as I'm sure everyone will want a seat and there are going to be about 100.
2) The wedding breakfast is set up as a carvery where you go and get the meat and veg, salad etc yourself.
What do people think? We're obviously going to look at loads more venues but would like people's opinions on these 2 obstacles and ways of overcoming them???
Cheers me dears! Cat x

well the carvery is always a good option. Especially for picky eaters. the seating thing is difficult can't think of a solution off the top of my head. Hope you get it sorted hun the venue sounds beautiful

Carvery's good, I wouldn't mind a carvery and you can be greedy, lol. Maybe they could extend the seating onto the dance floor if it's that big? xx
JD is taken so I'll settle for being Mrs Marge :o)

carvery is good, i love a carvery! As for the seating, have you actually asked the venue how much seating there is in the evening? Bare in mind people will be outside (smoking) standing around chatting, dancing etc so everyone is not all going to be sitting at the same time all evening.

I love the carvery idea and personally wouldnt see that as an obsticle as for the seating perhaps you could talk to the venue about it? as Chrissy said they could possibly take away some of the dance floor, plus remember there will be people who wont be able to make it due to holidays/illness etc x
I am a sucker for carvery so you would have my vote
as for seating we had the same dilemma then thought that alot would be dancing and the men like to hang at the bar lol so we thought ah well lol

You only need extra seating for the meal, then they could take tables away to open up the dance floor, you don't need as much elbow room for a evening buffet, and tbh I'm a wedding stander, prefer to be standing walking smoking rather than being sat.
I'm now a married woman
I have a gorgeous husband
Whats to do now
Theres no more wedding planning to do

go with it sounds lovely.

Carvery sounds lush hun - trust me not everyone needs a seat if you do that the room will look empty - if your worried ask them to provide small coffee tables as they don't take up as much room & you can get more chairs in xxx

love the idea of a carvery! if the dancefloor is huge then hopefully it'll be full and not everyone will need a seat! as long as they have a table to sit their drinks :)

Carvery is a good idea, can you not put a few tables or extra seats on part of the dance floor for guests. Have to say my fella and his mates never sit down but stand round the bar at any venue or round the dance floor so wouldnt be a prob if peeple did this?? If you have a good feeling about it i hope it works out! x

Only thing I would worry about with a carvery is the queue. If the venue manage it well and just ask for a few tables at a time it should be ok. Great idea for pleasing everyone as they get only what they want. x

Can I come I LOVE carvery if you think about it this way people can get what they want then and not just get what there given kinda thing and carvery is a hit with most people! I don't know about the seating thing =/ just ask for extra seats hmmm x

Im not a fan of carvery at weddings but thats just my opinion as i always spill the gravy make a mess and then by the time i start eating it its cold... but then again i dont like going for carverys anyways as i have never found a decent place that does one and the last one i had there was a lady bug (cooked) in my brocalli and i ate it and it was horrible... prob the reason why i hate carverys come to think of it

Thanks everyone for your replies so far! H2B and I were really surprised at how well the carvery idea went down with the majority, we're still not sure but will update when we book our venue, wherever it may be! lol x

Dont worry about how the venue will get people up they should be well versed by now - They usually serve the top table at the table as most brides hate the idea of getting up & poss spilling down their dress then where i used to work we would split the room down in two and have 2 carvery points - it worked really well xxx
