Hi ladies, sorry this is a long one but I'd like some advice if possible.
I booked a Bentley to take Adam and his best man to the venue on the morning of the wedding. I booked it a year ago and told the company what time I wanted him dropping off etc all at the time of booking. Its only costing me £120 (which has now been paid in full) and the owner of the company said that he'd probably be offered a more lucrative booking nearer the time, which he'd now have to turn down, but he'd rather have the guarantee of work so was happy to accept my booking.
So anyway we've been sending emails back and forth about pick up time, drop off, photographs etc and everything was fine - he's going to drop Adam off for around 12 - 12.15 ish, which means he needs picking up approximately 11.45. All fine.

THEN on wednesday I received an email saying that he took another booking for a full wedding after accepting mine, and he needs to be in Harrogate for 12 o'clock (our wedding is in york) so could he possibly pick Adam up 'a bit earlier' at, say, 10.50?
This would mean that Adam would arrive at the venue at 11.20 (before me!) and our wedding isn't until 1pm.
Would you be annoyed by this?
I sent him a very polite email that basically said no that wouldn't be ok and as far as I was concerned any booking taken after mine should work around mine, not me have to change just because they're paying him more. That was 2 days ago and he's not responded. I don't know what to do now - I looked on his website and it clearly states that they only accept one booking, per car, per day, which he obviously hasn't done in this case but if I cancel I only have 3 weeks until my wedding and will never be able to find a replacement that I can afford at such short notice! :o( I'll also lose my deposit, which I can't afford.

I was wondering if it might be worth saying that I'm happy to release him from his obligation to me if he can find me an equivalent replacement vehicle and chauffer at no additional cost to myself? He's bound to know someone else, right?
I don't know what to do - what would you guys do?
    xxxx

I would not be happy about that at all, he took your booking first and should honour what he agreed with you at the time of booking. He sounds like he's just chasing the money, how many cars does he have? Its is his problem he has over committed himself not yours. I would ask if he will refund your money in full and he can chase the bigger money, if he refuses then its his problem to sort not yours or even a partial refund if your going to be inconvenienced time wise. If he wont meet you halfway then I would'nt disrupt your plans if he wont compensate you in anyway. Good luck I hope you can get it sorted.

Stick to your guns chic! He cannot double book, it's on his business and therefore part of his contract that he will not do more than one booking per day. He's broken that agreement by taking on the second booking. I'd refuse the earlier time and if he refuses to work with you report him to trading standards.
Hope you get it sorted, he's out of order for putting you under all this stress 3 weeks before your big day xx

Would you be happy with a different car, maybe he would upgrade your car if thats ok with you at no extra cost, but if you want that car then stick to your guns xx

i dont know, i booked a bentley because Adam loves them and I really wanted it to be a special surprise but I suppose if he could provide me with something else decent then I wouldn't mind too much. I asked on my original email whether he had another car he could use. I know he has more than one bentley available because there's photographs of at least 2 bentleys sat together on his website! I'm just really annoyed and let down that he's done this so close - and more annoyed that he's been emailing me for the last couple weeks sorting stuff out and never once mentioned this other booking. Its bad because I've been talking about how I'd like some photographs taking when they arrive at 12.15 and he said that was fine, yet on this last email he admitted that he'd originally agreed to be in Harrogate for 12.15, before he realised it needed to be earlier. So that means he never would have been able to get Adam there at the time I wanted and do the photos in the first place!

Does he know your a member of this website? The threat of a bit of bad publicity might make him think twice, its worth a try.

Any chance you have anything written down or any receipts with details, if so then he has entered an agreement and binding contract with you, if he doesn't agree to the contract, threaten to sue him for more then the cost of your wedding, then get your hubby to be a taxi and sell the story to the papers. I believe it's called profitable revenge. Not what you need or want, but just let him know, it's what your prepared to do.

I would stick to your guns!!! If his website says only one hire a day then it is him that's in the wrong!!! He should have to find alternative transport for you of the same or equivalent or just honour your booking! First come first serve! X

Forgot to say that bad publicity is bad, but word of mouth is worse!!! I would make a point of saying that you will make sure and tell anyone that asks about wedding transport not to book with him!! If he is a true business man he will honour your booking as no company at all wants bad publicity of any kind! X

The bast*rd has cancelled my booking and is refunding my money! I've just received an email to say that the problems are insurmountable and that he is going to cancel my booking. He has offered me a free ride in the Bentley another day to make up for it - cheeky swine! I've told him where he can stick his free ride, made it quite clear how disgusted I am and have threatened him with trading standards unless he provides me with another car or honours my booking. I also told him I'll be letting all you ladies know how awful their service is and not to use them. I don't expect it'll get me anywhere but at least I've given it a go. He reckons I'll 'easily' be able to get a reasonably priced replacement at such short notice - I've pointed out that I work full time so when does he expect me to be able to arrange it?! What a git, I'm SO annoyed!!!!

I've just had a call from a lovely man from another company who is going to provide me with a Mercedes S Class for the same price as the other guy. He's really lovely and was absolutely appalled that I'd been treated the way I have. I'm still going to out the other company for the g*ts that they are, but at least I feel a bit better knowing that I've actually got a car. Had the pleasurable experience of just emailing him back and telling him where he can shove his car and that I expect to receive my refund asap as I now have another car to fork out for!

i will Brilly, i don't know what they'll be able to do though because I never received a contract (should have been a bit suspicious at the time I guess) so I just have all the emails as proof of the conversations we've had. There's also the statement on his website about the 1 wedding per car policy which he's not followed too. I think he took my booking last year and was just waiting for a better offer to be honest. He says its his policy to finalise bookings 2/3 weeks before the day which is why he's left it until now - my opinion on that is that its far too short notice to be 'finalising' details. I'm just lucky I managed to find somewhere with a decent car that was free on the day! And also someone who was willing to bring his price down to match what I'd paid before because I'm sure they wouldn't all be prepared to do it...

I'd have the man in the local paper to be honest - How can he justify what he's done when it could have potentially ruined your wedding!!! :( Glad you've got something srted chic..xx

I agree with stacey, name & shame in your local paper! Send them an email with all the key correspondence you've had from him (with dates etc) and the quote from his website about 1 car per day.
I'm sure they'd be interested - isn't there a whole tv show about cowboy traders who have tried to ruin weddings? I'm sure a local paper would be interested to run a story! Xx

i would still name and shame him that way other brides wont have to go thro the same stress as you have and also i'm sure that once you have paid somebody for something thats classed as a binding contract wether its on paper or via email you may not be the only one he has done this to and it only takes the one person to say something then others will come forward aswell, you could even give the new car hire place some publicity saying how they have come to your rescue they may even throw there car in for free lol.. x
