Has anyone stayed at the El Dorado Seaside Suites by Karisma which is adults only or the El Dorado Royale A Spa Resort by Karisma in Mexico? We love the look of them both but can't decide which one we would want to go to. If anyone has stayed there please could you give me your views. Thanks.

We sell it at work at Thomson , they are both as good as each other, 6* standard! feel the pillow menu and a choice of about 40 aromatherapy scents to be sprayed in your room, jacuzzis in the balcony, swim up suits that have butler service, a la carte all inclusive, international alcohol, day beds on the beach with butler service, private stretches of beach, large suites... Beautiful hotels xx

We are doing El Dorado Seaside Suites for ours and cannot wait! We knew two other couples that had gone and as soon as I said I was considering it they all said "do it!" so I knew it would be good x

I've not stayed at either, but have extensively researched them both lol. The main difference between the two is size: the Royale is MUCH bigger than the Seaside Suites, which means more pools, more restaurants and more bars, but also a less intimate feel. We prefer larger resorts, but it's very personal.

The next big difference is the beach, with most people considering the beach at EDSS far superior to that at EDR which has suffered from of erosion and last time I looked had a lot to of sandbags.

The third and final main difference is location, with EDR more centrally located (ie closer to the airport and major towns like Cancun and Playa del Carmen) and EDSS much further down the coast.

Otherwise, in terms of what is included, room lay-out etc they are pretty much identical, offering the same things eg 24 hour room service, unlimited a la carte dining, etc.

I've been to the area 3 times and stayed at 3 different adult only properties so if you have any questions let me know :-) we love Mexico and are back in October for our honeymoon, staying in 2 different hotels, after 2 consecutive years in the DR :-)

I went to Mexico in 2006 and stayed at the bahia principe (sorry forgot how to spell it) which I loved and it was a huge resort with loads of pools etc but we only really used one pool that we really liked as couldn't be bothered to keep walking to the others so maybe the smaller resort will suit us better.

We loved two of them, didn't much care for the third as it was too loud for us at the main pool, and there was zero shade at the pool, which my OH hated (I'm a sun worshipper; he isn't). Neither of us are 'kid people' (don't have our own and don't want them) so for us being able to avoid them is great lol. I also find that in general they're more 'upscale' than family resorts, and the ones we've been to have had different sections eg a really quiet pool, and then one with activities.

The ones we stayed at are the Excellence Riviera Cancun, Valentin Imperial Maya, and the Royal Playa del Carmen; for our honeymoon we're staying at the Excellence Playa Mujeres and the Gran Bahia Principe Sina Ka'an (also both adults only). Other ones worth checking out are the Secrets chain, as well as the El Dorada Maroma.

Thanks barbie86. I have had another look and both of the resorts I mentioned are Adults only, I thought it was only the seaside suites but the Royale is too and after having another look we think we like the Royale the best which is the bigger resort. We have 2 children but leaving them with the Grandparents while we go on honeymoon so an Adults only resort will be lovely :)

We were going to go for Seaside Suites but what put us off were the reviews of the beach and the new block construction. Royale sounds lush though :)

Yeah the beach doesn't look as nice as the beach at the Royale. Everything at the Royale looks a lot grander too :)

Both these hotels look absolutely amazing.. Can anyone give me an idea of more or less I'd be looking at spending to go here at the beginning of August? It won't let me see that far in advance yet online so just wondering if anyone has an idea of how much it might cost for a fortnight? Thanks x

Shannon: you're looking at anything from £1600-2000pp that time of year, depending on how prices go, when you book, etc. I usually find prices to be best a few weeks after they're released, and also around Christmas for summer holidays.

I'd also recommend the company we're going with to anyone looking at Mexico. They're exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable, they can always at least match the major tour operator prices, their transfers are much cheaper, their in-resort service is much better, and they are able to get perks at certain hotels eg free room upgrades, free nights, spa treatments, etc. We've used them 4 years running and have booked our honeymoon with them too. It's also more flexible eg we've chosen to do 17 nights rather than 14, staying in 2 different hotels.
