Sorry, this sort of comes under wedding flowers as well as themes, but as I could only pick one, I went for themes/colours - apologies if this was the wrong one!

So I knew from the minute I got engaged that my colours would be Cadburys Purple and ivory. But I've recently been thinking that it will look quite dark for a summer wedding and I want something bright and colourful that will really stand out against the purple. I've also been trying to think of a theme to tie everything together - the stationery, the flowers, the venue and overall feel for the day.

My two favourite flowers are sunflowers and daisies (I'm not sure what the 'technical' term is, but those flowers that look like over-sized daisies lol). I thought the yellow would look stunning against the purple - had an idea that my BMs could carry one each and then I could have a bunch. This would also solve my centre piece dilemma too.

However... I saw in a certain wedding magazine the other day a daisy theme - and completely fell in love with it. Again, the white daisies would go really nicely with the purple. I also had a vague idea of having a more rustic/back to nature kind of theme. I've also seen on a wedding blog how to make your own rubber stamp with a certain font that would fit in with this theme too.

But... would it be complete over-kill/craziness to combine the two together? Sunflowers AND daisies? Does this go? I'm considering having silk flowers as I've found a few companies whose prices are pretty reasonable, so I want to get in touch with them in the next year to get a quote, but I wanted to check that my idea isn't totally mental lol. I'm also making my own stationery (with the aid of my BM!) and need to get some ideas together for that as we'll have to make a start on the Save The Dates soon!

    What do you think???

Thanks :-) (And an early happy new year to you all too!)

I don't like flowers BUT I live daisies - and sunflowers. The oversized colourful daisies are called gerbera!

I don't like purple but that's just a personal choice. I don't think mixing the flowers would be an overkill - you could always substitute the sunflowers for yellow gerberas?

My aunts wedding flowers were sunflowers and she had a sunflower wedding cake - very cute.

i think its a lovely idea but I can tell you that gerberas (the big dasies!) don't really 'go' with sunflowers because when I was having my bouquet mocked up by the florist she didn't have any yellow gerberas and used a sunflower instead and it looked silly!
I can however tell you that yellow gerberas are beautiful and are similar to sunflowers, they just don't have the big black middle. They're gorgeous flowers :o) I think a daisy theme would be beautiful and I tell you what would look lovely with the dark purple, the bright orange gerberas. They are the most gorgeous colour, they actually make me feel happy to look at them :o) xxx

I found that picture of your idea and think it is beautiful! Theres no purple in the flowers but against a purple dress that would be stunning x

I didn't even think of using yellow gerberas instead of sunflowers - just googled some pictures and they look gorgeous combined with the white ones!

To be fair, when I was looking at pictures of sunflowers and daisies combined together there weren't that many and the few that I did find had a lot of greenery mixed in them - which looked better than the ones that were just purely sunflowers and gerberas.

Still torn, but I am veering towards white and yellow gerberas.

    Thanks ladies :-)

Kat831 - I saw a photo similar to that too and that's where I got the idea of combining it lol.

Mrs Brakes - your flowers are gorgeous! One of my original ideas was to have lots of bright colours, but I couldn't think of a way on how to combine it with a theme. How did you do it?

    Thanks :-)

Check out the cadburys purple theme thread, all the ladies with that theme have their colour schemes in there.

I am having a deep purple, with a deep cerise pink, ivory and slight dashes of red (very minimal red). The contrast of the pink against the deep purple is beautiful. Check out my pics to see. I do love yellow against purple, but I think you have to get the correct shade of yellow, I mean a deep purple, with a bright/pale yellow would look best I think

I'm having a mixture of cerise, bright orange and yellow gerberas and the bridesmaids are having cerise and orange to go with their aqua blue dresses. They are such happy summery flowers, I love them! White and yellow will look gorgeous with cadburys purple :o)

Thanks Kimmie - I've got that thread bookmarked I think! Lots of fab ideas on there :-) Your colour combinations sound beautiful! So far our purple is limited to the bridesmaids dresses and the cupcake cases - but also thinking if we go for glass vases for the centre pieces they will be purple too. Possibly the text colour on the stationery too. And then our other colour will be whatever flowers I eventually decide on lol.

A bunch of multicoloured gerbera is just dreamy - I'm imitating this with my crocheted flowers. As said I'm not a big fan of flowers unless it's those.

    Thanks sweetie!

I think you should decide on your colour, then search for flowers that come in that colour :) Although I did it the other way round, I saw purple bridesmaids dresses on BMs and they were holding bouquets of pink orchids, and I totally fell in love! I just love the contrast xx

Everything else was neutral, ivory dress and fg dress, grey suits and then the bright flowers and each of the 'main' men had different colour ties to match the flowers.

i love the cadbury purple shade.
I think if it is a colour you want then have it, i dont believe in all this "that colours only for winter" etc, it's your day so do what you want and have what you like
