Such a trivial thing really but I don't know what to do about the candles on the day. I intend on having tealights in votive holders (lots) on all the tables but I can't figure out what is the best way to deal with this. I am doing the decor etc myself and will be going in the day before to set up which is fine but I was just wondering what other people have / or intend to do with regards to candles and when and how they should be lit. For instance, my longest lasting tealights last around 4 -5 hours but the full duration of the day will be double that. So do I go round have way through and change the tealights? I'm getting married in the summer, so do I just wait till it gets dark before lighting them in the first place? Please share your candle experiences :)

The staff at our venue will light our candles just before everyone is let into the reception room.. And then will change them as and when, but they shouldn't need changing as we're having church candles..
The staff at your venue should light yours when you want them too and will replace them when needed xxx

Our venue lit all of ours on our tables just before the wedding breakfast and receiving line so they were burning for the whole of the wedding breakfast and on into the start of the party although I think actually ours did last longer for most of the night xxx

I'm having candles to enhance my day time centre pieces, but as the centres have LED lights in them, I won't be replacing the candles for the evening do... fire risk with drunk people and dancing etc etc...
And we lived happily ever after!

Ah I see, I don't really have that option because our venue have made it clear that all decorations are to be done by ourselves, as they are not getting paid, the venue is free. I'm thinking now though that maybe it won't be too bad because its unlikely that people will be still sat around the tables once the evening do begins, so maybe I'll just need to replace a few in the seating area. Thanks for your replies :)
I've been told that if you place your candles in the freezer for a day, they should last twice the time that it states. I've never tried it and don't know if it is true but thought you'd like to know :-) x

Maybe give Becky's idea so if it works you're sorted. If not I'd suggest lighting them later, have spare tea lights to replace deminished ones or have bigger candles that can last longer.

All we are doing is giving our Venue about 3 bags of tea lights and they are putting them into jam jars all around the venue so at night it will all be lit up by candles :) cant wait.
How about getting one of you BM or Best Man to go round and change them?
Cant wait until I become Mrs K

I'm thinking maybe I can give the job to my mum or sister perhaps, because I agree it will look amazing when it gets dark. I don't like to be asking the guests to be doing all the jobs but I think I'm going to have to get used to it because we have a tiny budget so I can't afford to pay people to do it.

We didn't light the candles in my birdcages until the evening do, but the staff went round and lit them, and I'm sure they are used to changing candles when turning a room around. :)
