So I thought these sounded like a really good idea until I read that only the profits from the badge actually go to charity. The badges are sold for £1 but for all we know, could cost 70p to make.
I emailed cancer research asking if they could tell me how much they actually make per badge but have had no reply. I can't help thinking it would be better to just do a donation and not bother with the badges and cards. Anyone have any more info on these as in how much the badges actually cost to make?

    you could make cards saying

    * in place of a favours we have
choosen to make a donation on
    your behalf to cancer research,
if you would like to add to our donation
we would be more than willing to accept*

I honestly don't know. Things like that cost next to nothing to make and they much be profitable in some way else they wouldnt bother selling them. You can make whatever donation you like per favour from Cancer Research it's just that the suggested one is £1. I'm sure you could ask them just to send you the cards as favours and save on the badges and then you know that it'll be almost 100% donation.
Alternatively you could just make a large donation to the charity of your choice and put a little placecard saying something similar as a favour. If you search the discussions for Poem Ideas there are some ideas that might help you in one of those that is literally entitled that.
We're going to use cancer research favours but also do a speech sweepstake like someone suggested a couple of weeks ago and raise that money for Macmillan Cancer Care

I think lala's idea is much better as you can never guarantee how much actually goes to your chosen charity! At least if your making a donation yourself, you know that every penny goes towards it x x

I got my cancer research favours and i'm really pleased with them. I hope the majority of my donation does actually go to charity cause I would hate to think only half of my donation actually went to charity. xx

Think I'll just go with making a donation and making my own cards then. Men aren't exactly going to wear the badges anyway
