I am making the bridesmaid dresses, and am using box pleats for the skirt. the one I have made is small box pleats, and I have since seen some dresses with wider pleats which I think actually looks nicer.
Anyway I have got to remove the skirt from the bodice to take it in a tiny bit, so I wondered if when I put it back together, whether to use the wider pleats instead? what do you think looks the best? I am thinking the wider pleats will make the dress look less bridesmaid-ey, and more likely to be worn again, and I will use the same amount of fabric so it will still be as full as it is now.

The dress I made with 1 inch box pleats

The pleats I think I prefer. ( I think they are possibly 3 inch pleats)

This one actually is not too dissimilar to the one I have made, only the skirt on this one is not quite as full. Pleats again are wider.

I prefer the wide pleats - they give the dresses a 'cleaner' finish.

me too.....and I love the 3rd dress too. its smart and can be a bridesmaid or even a party dress.
I saw this dress many times before I began making them, and its quite similar to the one I have made. I could even make the ruffled waistband on the bridesmaid dress a removable one, so thats its plain underneath, to use again.

Yeah rebecca, I also think it gives them a smaller waist, if you look at the dress I made, its quite gathered around the waist, but the white dress with wide pleats really tucks in at the waist. and all my bridesmaids are size 10.............(grrrrrrrr) so should look amazing......not like frumpy fat me....... :(

Can I ask another opinion please?

I dont suppose it really matters much, but I wonder what everyone thinks about pleat positioning?

would it look better with an INNER pleat at the centre front of the dress, or an OUTER pleat? I cant decide, I am swaying towards the inner Pleat. but interested to know whats the general concensus.

    thank you ladies .....again :)

I'll pin them first and see which I like the best before sewing them finally, cos the fabric and the way it drapes can also have a bearing on it . These larger pleats are so much easier than the smaller pleats I did anyway, so I should wizz through them in no time.

Out of the two photos I prefer the inner pleat but on the photo the waist goes into a triangle to the inner pleat and im not sure it would look as good if it was just coming from a straight line around the waist if you know what I mean? I think you would need to pin it first to see if it would look right xxx

Ok so I took the skirt from the bodice and pinned it back on, and I much prefer the widerpleats. I will sew it tomorrow so it will look much neater than it does now...
