If I am not getting married in church do you think we could still have ushers? My H2B has a few close mates but wants them all to play a part?? His best man isn't brilliant at speaking so he was thinking they could all have an input on the speech or something? Any advice please?! X

You can have severel ushers if you like, some could play their part in the church others at the reception, then all of them in the evening, and with the speeches x

We are having ushers and we are not getting married in a church. We both have brothers that we wanted to invoke in the wedding and thought this was the best idea. We are giving them little jobs that will make the day run smoother and easier for us x x

We are not getting married in a church but a hotel, ceremony and reception at the same place and we are having 5 ushers. Its up to you what you want people to do, there are no rules to follow. Not traditional for usher to give speeches but it doesn't matter. Have what you both want. xxx

You still need ushers regardless of where you're getting married as you need 1 or 2 to meet and greet guests as they arrive and to direct them to where to sit then also to help throughout the day rounding up everyone to be in the right place a the right time i.e. for photos, the receiving line, for dinner etc.
My sister had a civil ceremony and my BIL had 2 best men (couldn't decide between his brothers) and his best mate was an usher (useless though, didn't do a thing so they will need instructions).

Yes you can have ushers if your not getting married in church. People usually have one usher per 50 guests, as there main roles are too help out guests, help out the best man, decorate the "just married" car, ect. and just too generally make sure your day goes that little smoother. XX

Ushers aren't a necessity but you can have them even if you don't get married in a church. We had a small ceremony not in a church and had my son as usher, along with just one bridesmaid.
