    Hi

I went dress shopping at the weekend and found an amazing dress, completely different to what I thought I wanted but very flattering for my shape and exactly the vintage look I am going for.

The dress is £975 and the veil I tried on (a fingertip length lace one which matches the dress perfectly) was an extra £200. I also need to pay alterations on top of this which would be around £120.

This is a bit more than I wanted to originally pay so I am thinking about haggling the price, is this acceptable?

What should I say, how much would you suggest offering to them? Originally the dress budget I had in mind when I started looking around was £800 and this didnt include a veil. I was planning on buying one off the internet but I dont think I can now in case the lace doesnt match the dress.

I absolutely hate haggling (h2b does this all the time, he doesnt care but I get embarassed by it) so I'm just not sure where to start!

I dont want to risk offending the shop or looking stupid!

Or tell her your budget... and ask her is there anything you can do to help as you really love the dress and veil. Give it a try :)

    Getting married on 29/12/2014! :)

Thanks for the replies. Ive actually decided to go to another local shop first, as I've seen a very similar dress for a lot less (its £600 and a Maggie Sottero).

If I prefer the first one then I'm going to go back and see what they can do, I can pay in full (cash) if necessary so hopefully that will give me some bargaining power :)

I only went wedding dress shopping to try on some dresses and report back to my Grandma who will be making the dresses, what sort of dress I want.
I fell in love with this dress, but I had no intention of buying it. But when I got home I posted on my FB, that I fell in love with this dress and taged the wedding dress shop I went to. Not even an hour later I got a private message from the owner, offering me 20% off. I couldnt believe it!!! Try that?

    Haggling g is easy ....

1, never be afraid to say you will have to leave the item.
2,ask what the best price they can do it for.
    3. If it fits say you would be willing to take the dress then if you can come to an agreement.
4, keep saying how much you love the dress but that it's outside your budget
5,DO NOT DISCLOSE WHAT YOUR BUDGET IS.
6, if possible do all haggling while WEARING the dress

If they don't come down to wear you are happy, just say..

I'm going to have to leave it and look elsewhere, I really want the dress but it's just more than I can afford

My big manta is NEVER WANT SOMETHING SO MUCH THAT YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO WALK AWAY.

I haggle a lot my successes have been----

Kitchen down from 13k to 5k
Timeshare apartment in vegas down from $32.5k to $17k
Wedding rings down from $5799 to $1650
Wedding dress ( original price £1500) down from £699 to £230

    There are more lol

thing is the worst they can say is no ... its never going to make it cost more

also try to do this at the end of the month ... remember they will have invoices coming in rent/wages to pay etc ..... and any sale is better than no sale

when we did the apartment i ended up having the offer of a job as the Realtor ( USA) said she had never seen anyone negotiate so hard ,we also got 3 nights accommodation in Vegas ( we had out other apartment for a week but had decided to stay 10 days so had to find a hotel) a limo to move us to new hotel and then to airport when we left .. and a very nice dinner with the salesman costing over $500 for 3 of us.
