Hi I'm in a bit of a panic. A friend told me last night that it is unlucky to buy your own garter and I have bought mine! Is this true? I'm not normally that superstitious but I'm worried now!
CommentAuthorMrsTacky2B

I bought my own one too then a friend of mine also told me it was bad luck to buy your own. i looked it up and nowhere did it say this was bad luck, i looked at loads of other superstitions (boy there are a lot) but there was nothing about this being bad luck so i think we are safe ladies! ;-) xx

i will not be googling superstitions as i will probably scare myself lol !!!

I'm glad I'm not the only person that didn't know! I'm sure we'll all be fine. I guess there are no statistics out there for Brides who bought their own garter and then had bad luck.

I bought my own, and we're fine so far ;-) My nan originally bought mine but when we got it out the packet the material was unbearable and my nan said I couldnt wear it! lol x

I was going to buy mine too until my Mum said it was bad luck, so she bought it. At the time i did think she just wanted to buy me something as everything in the shop was gorgeous and the garter was the cheapest thing i looked at! Hee hee!! x

I think (as with most superstitions) that if you want to believe it, you can, but if not that's ok too. I bought my garter. my mum did offer me hers, but I saw it and it was horrible! I actually bought two - one ivory silk one, and a Chelsea one. I wore the Chelsea one as my "something blue" although the ivory one did have a blue bow on it, the Chelsea one was just to make Dan laugh - and it worked :-)

Thanks Ladies, I know you're right and just being stupid. I am just always on the lookout for a bargain and it was on sale in Debenhams. I'm sure it will all be fine!

I bought my own. As for happily married women... there are only two I know- my MIL and my Step-MIL... neither of whom I'd feel comfortable asking to pay for my garter, or even consider asking about wedding lingerie. They're both quite easygoing but I'm certainly not, haha.
Mine is beautiful and I can't wait to wear it.

I had every intention of buying my own - until my MOH told me earlier that she had already been scouting them and that she was planning on buying it for me :) But even if it had been "bad luck", it wouldn't have bothered me!
Now, finally, Mrs Riley
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
