    Hello there ladies,

I have 12 tattoos in total, but it's the 2 on my chest i have questions about. They are quite vibrant, don't get me wrong i absolutely love them! My roses and butterflies, each butterfly is for someone i have lost/passed on, so the big blue one on my shoulder is for my little brother for example. The Japanese one n the other side is half completed, there's still a phoenix that will meet it at the bottom and go down my right side. But i'm wondering what your doing about yours for your big day?

I've seen some beautiful dresses with the translucent like sleeves which i think are beautiful, but the majority i like are where the straps are like mid shoulder so hanging around like a medieval kind of style or no straps at all. Has anyone tried the makeup that covers up tattoos? Or had an artist cover them up for you?

The little tattoo princess in me wants to keep them out loud and proud, but the photographer in me is saying well what about your photos? :/

My bloke loves me with my tatts, and knows all the reasons and stories behind them all and doesn't seem too bothered either way.

So yer, what did you do with any of yours?

    Many Thanks!

    Thank you :)

I have paw prints on my foot!

I'm wondering if they're possibly too big to cover? My butterflies one i'm not to fussed about, as it would be all there, but my Japanese one goes quite far down, and i don't like the fact only half would be on show as dress would cut it off, so look silly perhaps?

I have butterflies on my wish tree, and hoping to have a "Butterfly Release" (instead of 2 doves, 120 Butterflies) :) x

I know someone who uses 'dermacolour' which comes in lots of colours to cover a skin pigment problem...the results for them are pretty good might be somewhere to start looking if you want to cover them...xx

I have tattoos, not as many as you but my tattoos are part of me, I love them and I will certainly not be covering them up... The day is about you and your h2b the tattoo are you and part of your life, you spent hard earned cash to have the art work done so why cover them xx

I have one that covers the top of my back as well, but i'm having my hair down, so i don't think that will affect anything. I won't be covering my lover arm/wrist one. It's my daughters name and a Disney theme one so it's far to important. I might get the derma stuff and see what it looks like, might cover some but not all, just so they're not too over-baring in my dress. :) xx

Hey, I think the proper cover up stuff is really really expensive, if you get a cheaper alternative you will still see the shadow. I dont think you should cover them up hun, if you love them and h2b loves them, why cover them up? I know what you mean for photos, but then you won't look like you in the photos? Ive got a few and have booked in another just before we get married (not with his name or anything but reflective of the theme of the day) and I'm not going to cover them :) Obviously it is your choice, but they are really nice and mean something to you and its like the people you have lost r there with u on the day xx

I am keeping mine out and proud. I have one all the way down my spine and you can clearly see it through my peep hole dress. in my opinion i want the photos to reflect who we are the day we got married, and that includes the tattoos we both have. Personally i would feel like i wasnt being myself, but i understand some people will want to cover up.

I have a half sleeve on one arm, very colourful, which goes across onto my shoulder, and one on the other arm which is just a small chinese thing, i also have a forearm tat (black n white stars and daughters name) both arms are being covered by my make up artist, she uses airbrush then seals it so minimal transfer if any at all. Covers amazingly well too. The forearm one im leaving visable. she is charging £50 extra to cover them all xx

Why cover them? Youve had them for a reason you love them they are part of you. I have a rose n a dolphin from when my sister was murdered i never even thought about covering them. Ok they are not as big as yours but yours are beautiful

i only have one tattoo and it was for charity i have the cornwall air ambulance (little red and yellow helicopter) on my ankle ! i promised if i raised £200 for them i would get it done never been so scared in my life i HATE needles lol but i love my helicopter ! but my dress is floor length so unfortunately it wont be seen but may have to make sure its in atleast 1 photo ;) i do understand though why some may want to cover ome tattoos , for example if they whole thing isnt visable because of the dress ? or it looks wrong with the dress but for the mmost part i'd say wear them with pride if you love them.

One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!

    Hi there,
What do you mean "what about your photos"? I don't understand why your tattoos would ruin them?
I have so many tattoos I don't know how to count them anymore and they will all be on display on the day in my sleeveless, knee length dress. Because I love my tattoos, even the unfinished ones and the ones that need a bit of work, the pictures from the day will be a representation of who am I am on that day, and the person I am has a lot of tattoos- that's how I feel anyway.
So if you love your tattoos then I don't see any reason for you to cover them up xx

I don't have tattoos, but do have a few piercings inc tongue, tragus, and 4 divers/single-point piercings (3 down my spine; 1 in my wrist). I've been asked by a few people what I'm 'going to do about them'; my answer? Nothing. I love them, they are part of me.

If I had a tattoo/tattoos, my answer will be the same. They are part of you; I do not get the concept of covering them up, unless you hate them. I personally would find it so weird looking at my photos and thinking, 'Oh yeah, that was the day I covered my tattoos up'; I would feel like it wasn't 'me', and ultimately, I want to be 'me' on my wedding day.

On a similar vein, I don't get brides who ask bridesmaids not to wear fake tan/dye their hair, or to remove piercings/cover tattoos, because again, if I did that, I'd look back on the photos and think 'Who was that standing there with me?!'. One of my bridesmaids loves fake tan; if she didn't wear it at the wedding, I'd be like 'God, E looks very pale!' Likewise, one shop we went to suggested one of my bridesmaids wear fake tan so that she would 'tone in' better with the other 2.. I was like 'Umm, no, it doesn't suit her, and I don't want to look back and think 'Wow, M looks orange! Oh yeah, that's because I made her wear fake tan...' I feel the same about tattoos, and just don't 'get' the concept of covering them TBH.

I don't have tattoos myself. And I have some mixed views on this that are kind of contradicting of each other...

I think for a bride WITH tattoos, yes definitely show them off as they are YOU and why should you be someone different on your wedding day?

but as a bride to be without tattoos, and as a person who just isn't keen on tattoos in general (not least because of a needle phobia lol) I have to admit I would (nicely) ask bridesmaids to cover up tattoos, either by a little make up or just by simply choosing a dress that covers said tattoo (eg I would never have bridesmaids in low backed dresses as one has a tramp stamp so garish she regretted it within weeks of getting it).

Now that said, YES I would politely ask about the possibilities of them covering up but if they didn't want to I wouldn't force them, and I wouldn't stop them from being a bridesmaid because of it.

But, I guess the point to my ramblings is, the covering up of tattoos doesn't necessarily come down to being ashamed of them. Its as simple as what your expectations are from your wedding photos. Like if when you were dreaming of your wedding as a little girl you envisaged no tattoos and now you want the photographs to replicate that?

I want to cover up my tattoo on my arm...I had it done at sixteen with a razor blade and Indian ink...it seemed like a good idea at the time...

I'm using tattoo cover up make up, I've had a play and it's quite good, but then it is quite a small tattoo.

I think your tattoos look ace, and I'm not sure how easy it would be to cover them up as they are fairly large.

I have 4. My eldest sons name in Chinese on my lower back (dress will cover it), a small heart on my inside hip (again covered) and my 2nd sons name on my ankle (dress will cover it). The only one on show will be the first one I ever got - a black rose on my left shoulder blade. I asked about a little jacket or something to wear over my dress to cover it as I was worried about it not looking very traditional having it on show. However both my mum (surprisingly) and the lady in the dress shop told me not to bother. They said it was pretty and didn't look weird at all. My mum also said if you like it why cover it up?
So that one will be on show. I think I was just worried about what's traditional but at the end of the day you need to be comfortable in what you show/don't show. I'm having a roses theme anyway so it sort of fits in.
Now to work out where to put the names of baby 3 & 4???

It's difficult isn't it. I mean even though I have them I don't like ott ones. I saw a girl out once in a black and pink top. However when I got closer it was a pink boob tube and her arms and chest were covered in tattoos. Personally - for me - that is too much. But she was obviously happy with them and I imagine hers would be on show when she got married. Tattoos are very personal. My dad hates the one on my ankle (a bubble popping with Oli written inside as my sons nickname is Oli-pop) and told me he's glad it'll be covered up.

    I'm in a similar position, but I'm very pro-tattoo-showing!!

My tats are part of who I am, I would never dream of covering them up.

I think covering them up for the sake of your photos is like saying you're ashamed of them. Why should you try to be someone different on your big day?

Let them be a part of your wedding as they are a part of your life.

If its part of who you are & you want them on show, then go for it.
As for the photographer saying "well what about your photos?" then perhaps you should say "good point. We'll have to allow some extra time for you to get a few good shots of my tattoos too".
They're gorgeous & very well done, there's no reason not to show them off. I would show mine off if I could, but its not very practical to try to flash a tramp stamp in a wedding dress!

I only have 5 and 3 are on my legs so won't really be seen much (unfortunately), but I love the 2 on my back (a Celtic crow and a dragonfly) and specifically chose a strapless corset dress so they would be seen, especially as the dragonfly one is the basis of my theme. I am even planning to get the drawing I did for my invites tattooed after the wedding as a reminder :)

I have not tried any cover up tattoos but I have some nasty scars (from the many hospital visits from a very active, accident prone childhood) and also have a mild skin condition on my arms I want to cover but as I left it too late to see a dermatologist my doctor just told me to check at boots as supposedly they do some good stuff, I haven't been yet but fingers crossed.
