What flavours are everyone having for their wedding cake? I was planning to have fruit at the bottom, then victoria sponge then lemon on the top however we went to a wedding fayre on sunday and had a taster of chocolate torte with a wite chocolate cream in the middle which was amazing and a fruit and rum which was really moist and sticky with a nice rum kick! I hate fruit cake but feel you have to have it as its tradition.

I am having the bottom tier as victoria sponge with jam and cream middle and the top two will be chocolate with a lovely chocolate cream I'm not having fruit as i don't like it and nor do most people I will be inviting. Htbs dad told me I have to have it but as my mums buying it I'll be having what me and htb want not his dad :-) don't feel like you should have it just because it's tradition XX

We are having fruit at the bottom
    sponge cake in the middle
    lemon on the top.

We were keen to have chocolate as a tier but the cake maker insists that the icing would not cover the chocolate without it being a mega thick layer of icing.
We're not too bothered - we're having the design we love! x

undecided if we're having a traditional style cake but if we do it'll be carrot cake and choc fudge - purely because I love them. If not traditional then cheesecake (dessert cheesecake).

My OH would like the croquenbouche (of that's how you spell it) but it's not particularly nice to look at is it? x

i didnt know what red velvet was either it just looked and tasted good, but here is the info...

A Red Velvet Cake is very dramatic looking with its bright red color that is offset by a creamy white frosting. There are many theories as to its origin. Some say it comes from the South, others say it originated in the North. All we really know is that it has been a favorite for decades, not only in the States but also in Canada (it used to be sold in Eaton's Department Stores). It is really a Devil's Food Cake that has red food coloring added to it. John Mariani tells us in his book "The Dictionary of American Food and Drink" that the name 'Devil's Food Cake' is so called "because it is supposedly so rich and delicious that it must, to a moralist, be somewhat sinful."
    Mmm red velvet

I'm resurrecting this thread from the depths of last month!
My sister is making our cake and we've just spent the weekend with her, so had a chat about flavours.
We've decided that we'll have a dark chocolate orange fudge cake on the bottom (10"), a lemon in the middle (8") and the fruit (not to serve, but to keep for either 1st born or 1st anniversary - whichever comes first!) (6") for the top. I was worried about the weight but apparently you can put stabalisers in to stop it crushing the tiers below.

I'm making our wedding cake with my mum and chief bridesmaid. It's going to be four square tiers (6,8,10,12, I think) and the flavours will be dark chocolate mud cake, white chocolate and lemon mud cake, fruit cake and carrot cake, but I'm not sure which one will be which.

We're also having a BYO Cupcake table and asking my favourite friends to bring a few cupcakes with them to add to it. It should be fun.

We are having quite a simple cake in many ways. Plain soft sponge, creamed butter sugar filling with jam (if that makes sense, am sure there is a name for that but for the life of me it escapes me everytime). Not 100% sure how many tiers yet but we do know it is going to be nice and 'bright' with the overall look lol.

Oh and an absolute mass of cupcakes for everyone to scoff :o).

first - belgum chocolate sponge split and filled with chocolate butter cream
second - chocolate & vanilla marble split and filled with vanilla butter cream
third - victoria sponge split and filled with vanilla butter cream & strawberry jam
fourth - lemon sponge split and filled with lemon butter cream (that 1 isnt getting cut as taking home)

we are also having a plain iced fruit cake to be cut up in case any guests want fruit, as i cant stand it so hence its not in the wedding cake xx

I wanted chocolate and raspberry, but due to budgetary restraints (i.e. we've spent far too much on everything else!) we're getting premade cakes from M&S. We're getting chocolate so that's halfway there. I'll just sneak into a corner and stuff my face with raspberries simultaneously. Hehe.

ive done away with tradition and sacked fruit.

we are having chocolate sponge and vanilla sponge. i just cant make my mind up as to which order.

originally wanted the choc sponge as top tier as there is more chance of it getting eaten afterwards (wedding diet - GONE) but as im doubling up my biggest tier as a dessert, im sure the choc would be more popular!!!! refuse to pay £36.00 for a bloody gateau!

Don't have fruit if you don't want it. Alot of people dont really eat it but because of its weight it does have to be at the bottom on any tiered cake.

You could do a combination of lots. We are having cupcakes with a cutting cake but hoping to do lots of different flavour icings.

I hate fruit cake and it's not my tradition anyway, I'm not British.

We're also having cupcakes and a larger on top to cut. They will all be wheat-, gluten- and dairyfree and I'd like a mix of choc and vanilla sponge but I think the moisture will come from courgettes. Not sure yet!
