My mums friend has just gt married and she had a two tier cake and cupcakes and she had half of both left over, so is go for the smaller option possible, but it also depends in how ur serving it, I'm having mine as desert after the buffet

To an extent, doesn't it depend on how good your cake tastes and when it's served? If you serve dry cake late in the evening, it'll go to waste. If you serve delicious cake pretty much from the first moment your evening guests arrive, it'll likely all be eaten.

well i dont think it all depends on when the cake is given i think it depends if someone cuts it up and puts it out i have been to two weddings now where ppl havent hardly touched the cake so im goin to make a specific request to the venue that when the buffet is put out the cake is cut and put on the same table xx cause i think some ppl dont like top just go up and start cuttin into it x

Unless it's cut up and SERVED out, I wouldn't consider that it has been served. Isn't that part of the caterers' job?

    right here goes

cake number 2, topper number 3 cuz it matches better al though i prefer 2.

and our cake went to waste mainly cuz our reception went to pot so didnt get chance 2 cut it, we had cake for 120people for just us 2!! and we'd fell out with our families lol not good, we had 2 tiers the bottom was fruit which neither of us like and top was sponge so we just scoffed that between us. x x

From my wedding we had a two tier traditional fruit cake for our main cake and additional to that 2 rectangular decorated slab cakes - one chocolate and one victoria sponge that was already pre cut by the hotel kitchen staff. We cut our main cake between the 2nd course and the desert course so that all cakes could be served with coffee/tea at the end of the wedding meal. The rest was served within the evening buffet which went out 1 hour after they arrived and was eaten. We had approx 110 guests at wedding and an additional 20 in the evening.

We went home the day after with no fruit cake left and a very small piece of chocolate and victoria sponge cake which we distributed to those locally who did not manage to attend.

I hope this helps a little with your workings out. xx

I was at a friends wedding at the weekend. They had chocolate cake which was lovely and we had decent slices. However I stayed behind to take some more photos and we found out that the actual cake hadn't been used at all the staff had cut up some cutting bars and there was about 10 slices of that left plus the whole cake which was untouched except for where the couple had cut it!

That's why I'm very glad that I'm making mine. For a five tier cake I'm looking at less than £100, and then maybe another £50 on the cakes for the extra cake table from Costco (G has a MAJOR addiction to Costco's big cakes).

I've decided we're having a very plain 4 Tier cake, Chocolate Sponge with White Icing & (WAIT FOR IT) i'm making it myself, I'v started practicing now, it's never too soon.
When I do them i'm going to take photo's of it & save them, because if it doesn't turn out very good for the day, i'm gona have the best photo enlarged and put by the side of the Cake with the title, HERE'S ONE I MADE EARLIER LOL x

We had a four teir fake cake to sit and look pretty and then had four sheet cakes to cut up. The venue were a little late in cutting up the cakes though so a lot of our guests with kids had left before they got chance to have cake. We now have two sheet cakes that we have to go and hand out to all those that didn't get any or it will go to waste.
