I recently bought a dress on the internet. I had been lead to believe by the website and through private emails that I would receive a Benjamin Roberts dress that I've had my eye on for a while but found out had been discontinued. I thought the discontinuation was the reason for the low price. The site is also using pictures taken from the sites of the designers themselves and not putting on pictures of the dress that you would actually receive.

The dress I received was really poorly made and a fake, they've tried to make it look like the original and have even put BR on the inside! Before I bought the dress I was getting instant emails back, but since complaining and requesting information about how to return it and get a refund I have heard nothing. I have emailed them everyday (sometimes twice- largely to annoy them as much as they've annoyed me) to no avail. There is no information on the package about how to return it or even where it has come from.

I've contacted Benjamin Roberts who have been really helpful and unhappy that the site has been using their picture sin this way, so some good of it may come there, and avoid other brides to be being so disappointed. Any ideas about what else I could do?

I'm not sure if I am able to name the website but if you swap the first letter of these words then you'll have it: Hress Dope.

Please tell everyone you know about this scam!

My mum bought it, although paypal was an option I think she just paid by card, as she doesn't have a paypal account...Good idea though...

Yes I have been trying to get the RMA via email. It also says they have live chat for help but they don't, and there isn't a phone number. I just think it's unfair that their dresses don't match the pictures AT ALL. If I can work out how I'll attach a photograph from my phone. I can't find anywhere on the site that says they make replica dresses rather than sell the originals. It says you have to send the dress back within 7 days to get a refund but I haven't been able to do they because they haven't replied. I don't want a credit note!

If your mum paid by credit card and it cost over £100 then she should be able to get the money back through her CC company. She may also want to cancel the card she used as sometimes these companies sell card details on.

My golden rule when shopping online is 'if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is'. I only ever buy through sites I know are reputable eg the designer direct, or well-known department stores. I know that doesn't help now, but worth keeping in mind for the future :-)

Yes sure. It was over £100 and it was with a credit card. If she got the money back through her credit card company would the dress website try to charge her again for it? I don't know how these things work!

As far as I know it's the credit card company who cover the cost, not the company themselves, so no, they shouldn't. But as I said, I personally would be cancelling that card as some of these companies do sell on card deals for fraudulent purposes, and I wouldn't be comfortable keeping that card.
