Ok so, we cannot have confetti at our venue and I thought that a butterfly release would be a really cute substitute, it also has some personal meaning to me as I have Native American in me and it has a spiritual meaning to my people...I guess what I was wondering is, have any of you done or witnessed one and if so, how did it go down?? I would be greatfull for any help or suggestions you could offer thanks xx

lol i think they flutter...they dont really stay near you when you go to places like a butterfly house? Unless your wearing really sweet perfume then they come after you lol
Awr it would be lovely :) How would you capture them? Or do you know a business that does it? x
CommentAuthorMrs Richardson 2B x
Well they business breeds them specially for your day and brings them to you the day before, they are kept in a state of hibernation until they see light when you release them xx

Awr thats fab...how much to the charge? We grew some ages ago. Bought the kit online for the kiddies xx
CommentAuthorlizzylou
I'd maybe do it at a safe distance from the rest of the party because I know I don't like any flying insects and is probably bat one of them if it came near me! Lol

Well it's not as if they sting! Go ahead & do it, just maybe get your MC to announce that if anyone doesn't like them, to move to the back of the group, so they're not running away, charging through your guests spilling their drinks. Little kids might be bit giddy too, so maybe warn their parents beforehand too?
CommentAuthorJennyHeather
Ooooh I've never seen anything like that before, that would be a great thing to do.
CommentAuthorMrs Richardson 2B x
Well we are putting a note on the invites and I've already asked all my bm's if they mind them lol. it costs £120 for 50 butterflies they are Monarch Butterflies and do look stunning, they come individually boxed so we could hand them to our guests and have them released when we say "I DO" or in a blanketed cage for just us too to release. I want our guests to release them but my h2b thinks it's inhumane to keep them in boxes even though they are in a state of hibernation until released, he's a very caring soul bless him lol xx

It sounds so beautiful. It'll look awesome! Just make sure there aren't any animal lovers who are out spoken and tell you it's cruel to lock butterflies in cages or boxes. I think it's a lovely idea, I can just hear someone I know having an "opinion" on it and saying something. I say go for it xxx

well we have had a couple of those already but I said, if you don't want to release a beautiful butterfly into the eco system then that's up to you, but it's not like they are kept in cruel conditions as they are bred for our day and are kept in a state of hibernation. It's the sunlight that wakes them and causes them to fly off. If I thought for one second that it was being done in a cruel way I wouldn't do it, butterflies are my favorite animal and I feel happy with the idea of releasing 50 in an area where we hardly see any anymore....I mean think about it, how often do you see butterflies in Croydon or anywhere these day's??xxx

Ohhh, monarchs are just beautiful! And seen in the UK too, which is a must if you're releasing - you never know, if conditions are right you may even start a colony, or see them migrate like others do. A sight for you and your guests on the day and hopefully many others to enjoy later :)

Lovely idea, I looked into this but the prices were a lot more so didn't bother and probably to late now. Will look amazing x x

Butterflies sounds so sweet! I'm not allowed confetti either, but we are allowed petals obv cos they are nature... But away from the venue so we're doing that, we could have a dove release but h2b and I don't like it,we think its cheesy but the butterflies sounds a bit different, really nice idea xx
