were thinking of doing a buffet ourselves with food from iceland but we were given the choice of a hog roast saturday for £500 which would feed 150 guests. if you were a guest at a wedding which would you prefer? a cold buffet or a hog roast with freshly baked rolls, apple sauce, salad, fresh potato salad and fresh coleslaw

I voted hog roast and the reasons being- I've never been anywhere where there's been a hog roast and I would like to try it as I'm a bit of a foodie :-) Iceland food is ok for a party but it might be too cheap looking at a wedding and we can buy Iceland stuff any day of the week so it won't be as special.

This is the decision we having issues with. Is it for the evening or as ur wedding breakfast?
What would veg's have if go for hog roast? Are the company happy to keen Lean bits of meat for picky people (like me dont like fatty/grisly bits of meat)

were not having a wedding breakfast (getting married at 3 so wont be at reception venue till half 5ish) we only have one veggie attending wedding and its h2bs dads girlfriend. he doesnt like her so said she can just have some salad.lol. i suppose but our familys arent really picky eaters ill be 36, thats what we were thinking, neither of us has seen it at a wedding before so would be a good conversation starter

Well salad sounds ok for the 1 veggie so thats ok Ill go hog roast then as it is yummy but I would ask aboutt eh meat things aas well as I would probably end up hungry as I did at a weding I went to not so long ago as it was very fatty & I wouldnt eat it x
I voted for the hogs roast, because personally on my wedding day, I wouldn't want to be worrying about ensuring food was cooked and ready for the guests. Plus I love hog roasts¬

Hog Roast 100% as if you dont want meat the can have salads. I absoutly hate a Iceland buffet as nasty food and all frozen so not healthy plus saves you a job too xx

Hog roast without a doubt. I don't like cold buffets, and I'm not a huge fan of iceland food TBH; I wouldn't really find it substantial as a meal.
One thing I would say though is that you may also want to put some food/snacks out as well later on, depending on what time you're having it. Eg if the hog roast will be served at 4pm, and your reception lasts until midnight, people are going to get hungry again, especially if they're drinking.
CommentAuthorkimi1987
We shouldn't need to have anything else as it won't be served till about 7/8. I'm now just waiting on a friend to find out for me if we can do it out the back of the hall. Hopefully we can

For me, I don't mind what food so long as its done well. I'm afraid Iceland food is not, because it's pre-cooked, frozen and then re-heated it loses it's texture and taste. So I voted hog roast. I'd be happy with pig in a bun so long as the pig tastes like pig, and the bun tastes like bun!!!
DOWN WITH FROZEN MEALS! Lol. Sorry forgot myself there.

Definitely a hog roast for me! They're awesome :) I do love a nice buffet too, don't get me wrong, but the hog would win over that, any day!
Vegas baby!

I went for buffet just because I am not a fan of pork, but it was a close tie as though I like a buffet I am not a fan of iceland food, sorry grew up on iceland and kwik save food and as soon as I could buy my own food never looked back
CommentAuthorlizzylou
I know this will sound wierd but i'm a vegetarian - not for any ethical reasons i just don't and never really have liked meat - but even I would vote hog roast! I went to a wedding where there was one last year and the salads and potatoes and everything that went with the hog ( i didn't have any hog) were delicious!! Far nicer and fresher than the usual buffet fair of beige sausage rolls and bits of chicken.
I know lots of people reall like buffets but i just have just never liked them. Hog roast for the veggie please! lol. xx

so h2b rang the venue last night to find out if we can have a hog roast and the person on the phone said we have to write a letter to the chairman asking his permission. he was seriously??? you cant just give me yes or no answer? the bloke then replied with well you have a while yet till your wedding so theres no rush to send the letter. i said to h2b. NO RUSH?? were getting married in 5 months and we have to book in advance are they taking the p***. seriously do they not know the planning that goes into a wedding, after all we booked the venue 20 months ago.

Is it to with insurance? We had to apply for permission for a hog roast for my mums wedding a few years ago at the village hall. It does seem very unorganised. Have they had hog roasts there before? xxx

a friend works there and he said theyve had them before so i dont know why there would be a problem. its just one more thing added to the list of things to do. i need to let the company know if we want one as they usually do a hog roast for something else that weekend so would need to cancel that to do our wedding

after talking over the positives and negatives (mainly positives lol) we decided a hog roast would be alot better than a buffet plus it takes away alot of unwanted stress of having to do the buffet on the day of the wedding

Yeah it might be a standard procedure of theirs that they need it in writing, im wondering if it may be because of the length of time it takes to cook the hog and if they would need a member of staff to do it or to oversee it for insurance purposes like someone else said. If I was you I would put pen to paper today and post this letter at the earliest opportunity.

You should call them today just to ask if they have received the letter. You don't need a decision today, just assurance that the letter has been received. No point leaving it a fortnight then finding out they didn't get the letter.
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
Yeah defo call them to chase up that the letter was passed on to them.
