the venue that we have found for the wedding reception are talking about us doing a sit down buffet for the church guests and then doing an evening buffet for the rest of the guests. after sitting down with H2B we have realised that budget wise we just cant afford that amount on food, can we just have one buffet for everyone that is set out twice during the night (every 2 hours for food hygiene reasons)
what has everyone else done for their wedding?

we have a really good menu option for the evening but at £10.50 a head we can only really afford that option or we are looking at nearly 2K for food :O

You could have your buffet for your church guests, skip puddings and utilise your wedding cake as desert and then in the evening instead of a whole buffet in the evening do something like Georgie recommended - ask the venue to provide more of a snack - my experiences of evening guests is that often the day guest aren't mega hungry as they've eaten not that long ago and most evening guests have had their tea before they come. I'd focus on making sure you day guest are well fed.

My friend had an afternoon tea (sandwhiches etc) with lots of home made cakes (lots of the wedding party got baking to help) for the day time, then in the evening the local fish and chip shop provided fish and chips in a little box - one per person and it only worked out at about £4 per head (not sure what the overall cost of the afternoon tea was). The shop had never catered for a big party like that before but she just went in and asked and they were happy to help. It was a great evening snack and everyone loved it as it was quite exciting it turning up and it was a good old fashioned treat. The bride just had to provide a few bottles of salt and vinegar which wasn't too costly. I guess it was a bit more work as they did more of the organising but all her close friends rallied to help on the eve and it wasn't stressful at all.

There are lots of cheaper options to food. My partner and I have worked out that with weddings, basically, the more you are prepared to organise yourself - the less it is going to cost you! Good luck, let us know what you decide.

    Lizzy. x

Kimi we are getting married at 3pm too, so I was thinking just the one buffet would be enough as obviously people will have lunch/breakfast at home. Right??

I agree with ZeeMee, a hog roast is a much cheaper way to go and a much nicer way to go I think. We're having the usual 3 course meal for our day guests and bacon and sausage rolls for our evening guests ( less than half the price and I think people would actually prefer that) x x

We are getting married at half 3 then having sit down buffet. For the evening guests we are having bacon and sausage butties later on. We can't afford the two buffets and decided that anyone who was coming at 8pm would probably have had something to eat already so why fork out for another full buffet xx
