I've recently found out that my friend - who is getting married a month after me - has a wedding budget of almost 4x that of mine. I'm trying to keep everything quite tight and we're having a very small ceremoney with only 20/25 guest compared to her 100! I know big dresses and elaborate table decorations are not what weddings are all about but I'm really worried that people will judge my wedding badly compared to hers. I know it shouldn't bother me but it kind of does a bit.

If people judge your wedding on how much you've spent hun then they're not worth bothering about. The most important part of your wedding costs absolutely nothing so if you spend £thousands or £tens it makes no difference. Try not to worry about it hun. xxx

as the other threads say hun, it is the ppl and atmosphere and the love you share with h2b that make a fab wedding... not all the added extras so dont panick. Noone will be thinking this way anyways and will just be happy to be invited. You will have a fab day. Dont worry about it.

I am on a tight budget too... Want the dress and brides maids, but finding it hard to get a cheap reception, the night do is more important to me than the reception. My guest list as gone down to 37 people. I want lovely day one remember, but dont want to be spending lots of money either. My step brother is getting married on Saturday and spent 7k no way can i afford what they have. Then again her daddy as paid for it... I wll be paying for mine.. I think as long as your happy and your family is there then thats the main thing!
Been with Neil 5 and half years...
Been Engaged 12 Month
Hope to be Married soon.
Life is full of surprises
I want a day to remember because it was amazing - not because it's left a burning hole in my bank statement. it's very difficult not to get caught up in it all - I'm marrying the man I love, that's the most important thing :) I just worry that it won't be good enough :S like we'll look like the 'poor cousins' in comparison. I know it doesn't matter, I just want the day to be special.

there are a few weddings we are going too where they are getting things paid for at their wedding. me and rich are payin for the wedding ourselves which i feel makes it more special knowing that our special day was created entirely by us. try not too worry, your day will still be special and magical no matter what the cost! :) x

Also agree with NHR115 , I really would worry about it!x

Don't worry about looking like poor cousins. I utterly agree that money isn't everything.
Usually what people really notice is the care that you put into making sure your guests are happy and that doesn't cost a penny. If you've only got 20-25 guests then you have time to give everyone attention and make them feel special.

Well said everyone..no amount of money can pay for love and happiness...your wedding will be great and so intimate and friendly..calm down...people who truly care about you and love you will just remember how happy you both were and how honoured they were to be a pat of it. xxxx

We're having a small wedding (20 of us) and it's not because of budget - it's because we just wanted people there who are close to us and who we want to celebrate with us and share our day. If anyone compares or yours weddings or thinks yours is bad because it's small isn't worth bothering about. Bigger isn't always necessarily better (well in this sense anyway lol).

I have been to weddings costing over £12k and have another one soon which I think is costing around £17k, but I've been to £5k weddings and they've all been great, I havent particularly noticed anything that made the expensive ones any better! Its a bit of a worry for my wedding too as I'd love a cheap wedding, but I'm hoping we can make ours cheap and quirky! People will remember it as something a bit different to the 'standard' hotel type wedding!

it really doesnt matter how much you spend as long as you enjoy it! someone i know had a 25k wedding and somone else a 3k wedding and you know what...you couldnt tell as the bride and groom were so happy on the day and that is all that matters!

I worry about this too sometimes hun but i agree with NHR115 and mrsbarkertobe x

Also, your friend won't be able to say more than a quick hello to each of her 100 guests, whereas you'll be able to sit and spend time with every single one of your guests.

And by that I mean, you don't need money to have an amazing wedding, a wedding is about marrying the man you love not about spending money to make it all pretty and over the top.
Don't worry, your day will be perfect.

I don't have a budget but I don't think it's going to be any better than anyone else's wedding that is being put together on air because I really do believe it's not all about the money, the money helps but it doesn't "make it". It's the little things that matter and that make it so special. A little ceremony could end up being so much better than a big one because it's more intimate and romantic but having a huge one could be nicer because of a specific way you've planned it.. I dunno if I'm making sense but I know what I mean lol
Its all in the planning, not the money and it's all about love, not the money :-)

I believe the guest list is in the order of 150 to 200 friends and family. Unfortunately we would prefer a more intimate wedding. However, etiquette forbids as Alastair and I have quite a wide social circle of friends. We do not have a budget although for the sake of replying to this thread I will say it will probably be more than first intended.
