Do you think it's worth getting into a bit of debt (less than £5k, say) for the perfect venue? We really don't want to compromise or wait any longer than we already are but the venue we really want for the reception seems super-expensive (£8k).

Is it expensive? And do you think it would be worth borrowing a little extra money if we can't get it together in time?

    Thanks in advance :-)

I think if you can afford to borrow money and pay it back without struggling then why not, have you shopped around for venues or looked at ways of cutting back on some things, there are always corners that you can cut and save money, but at the end of the day its your choice - good luck though hun hope you get the wedding that you want x

the debt decision is only something you and the h2b can make. Personally we wouldnt choose debt. As for how expensive or not your venue is it depends on what you get for your money!

Aw thanks for all replying. I wouldn't usually choose debt but the venue is stunning - it has a 12th century church within the grounds. Problem is the £8k is literally a furnished marquee for 100 guests. Food, drink, entertainment etc are all extra and it just feels a couple of grand too high. I guess we'd be paying for the convenience and scenery but it seems mad just for 1 day!

Well we are paying around 8k for our venue incl 3 course wedding breakfast, evening buffet, chair covers, room for ceremony, room for us on the night with breakfast, a toastmaster and a couple of other little bits for 80 day and 100 evening guests. (and I happen to think our venue is stunning as well!) However like you say it is one day but it's one day you will only do once!

debt isn't necessarily a bad thing - yeah its not ideal but as long as you keep up the repayments then i don't see the problem x

there is keeping up the re-payments but (and i really hope this doesn't happen to you), if circumstances arise, where you arn't able to make the repayments, what will you do?

I would hate to start off in debt. Money (or lack of it) can lead to all sorts of stress. Even more so in this climate when you don't know how secure your job is etc. Either wait for what you want or go for something that you can afford.
