    Hello everyone,
I have only just joined so new to the site and all

Our budget for our wedding is £5000
Does anyone else have a smaller (than the average uk wedding) budget?

We are being made to feel our budget is not realistic by many people and lots also cant understand why we want to keep the cost this low.

We have been together 8 yrs and have 2 beautiful children, a house and a dog.
We do not want to put ourselves into debt for our wedding
The way we see it is the whole point of the day is to celebrate us getting married, not to worry about what favour boxes we have and conforming to "what we should have" and focus on what we want to do

Sorry for the rant. Looking forward to hearing other peoples smaller budget ideas and discussions

    Elle xx

You can have a beautiful wedding on a budget like that!!! Many on here have! Me and h2b didn't actually make a budget, we're just keeping all costs down as much we can...but it's suprising all the added extras that come along! It's hard work and takes alot of shopping around but you'll do it! xxx

    Hi Elle23 =)
I also have a smaller budget of £3000, as me and my partner dont want to get ourselves into alot of debt.
we are having a registry office ceremony followed by an evening reception to cut costs.
At the end of the day its not about balloons or favours, its about making a life long commitment to the one you love, and having your friends and family there to share it with you. Ive been to many weddings in the past i cannot tell you what the favours were or the colour theme, just whether i had a good laugh with the people there lol x
Its your and your partners special day so its up to the both of you what you have or dont have =) xx

    Hi Elle and welcome :D

My budget is about the same (2 kids and a house but no dog :D) we just can't justify or afford an expensive wedding.
I got a £999 deal for the reception (x2 as having 100 people) and by looking around have found the cheapest supplier for chair covers, ebay for invites, fake flowers, winter discount for photographers, waiting for the sales for bridesmaid dresses etc
By looking around you can get quite good deal and as you said the day is about you getting married not how much you spend :) xx

Hiya, we have a similar budget but we'd like to add a few things. think we'll have to put abit of overtime in before we add any extra costs in though. No overtime then no extras lol

We have a £4500.00 budget and we still have £500.00 left! You can definatly still organise a maical wedding on a budget - I saved hundreds on my dress by using bay of e and we just spent a long time chosing the venue and what we wanted . The only thing we havent scrimped on was the church as the marriage is the bit we care about the rest is just a bonus xx

you've come to the right place if you want support and money saving tips :D
Welcome to the mad house hehehe xxx

hunni i just had my wedding a few weeks ago and all in all i spent around 5000, that was including everything right down to underwear. And I wouldnt change a thing about it, It was perfect and we had everything we wanted and more :D

First thing you need to do is have clear Ideas what you both want from the day, then shop around! package deals are the best way to go when on a budget and most big hotel chains offer them xx

    Good luck xx

Elle I am totally with you. Even if we would have the money I wouldn't want to spend much more than the mentioned £5000 (I think this will be our total aswell though it's a high estimate). I am absolutely refusing to feed into this totally crazy wedding industry. Never ever am I going to pay these prices for a dress I am going to wear once nor am I spending shedloads of stupid money on (ugly in my eyes) flower arrangements. The list is endless.

DIY and bargain hunting is the secret. And not to go for anything that is advertised as "for weddings".

    Good luck!

My budget is 4k, my dad and my godfather are paying but I'm still saving and sticking to that budget in case anything happens.
If I still have that money after the wedding I want to put it toward a boob job lol

We haven't got a budget as such, just paying as we go along, but I think without a honeymoon will be 4-5k. Trying to keep it as low as possible.

Oh wow, thank you all so much for your comments.
I was starting to believe the comments made of £5k?!!!! You cant have a nice wedding on that!!

Now feeling much more positive and glad we are not the only couple that want an amazing day for a not so stupidly high cost!!!

    Feeling very welcome here!!!

My budget is around the same. Me and OH have been together 7 years (by the time we get married), we have a house and a kitten. We also don't want to get in debt, but I also have a bit of an anxiety disorder so I didn't want a big wedding with lots of people staring at me. So we are having a smaller wedding and reception at a posh hotel near our house. :)

The trick is to look around and utilise the 'Bay as much as possible. You can find some amazing bargains and treasures on there as long as you are a bit flexible about what you want.

my budget is £1000 :O but we are on target for that tbh which is lucky :) I would love to have £5k for a wedding but we spent all our saving to allow me to set up my own business so have had to re-think our wedding plans - for the better I might add ! now I'm kinda glad we only have pennies to spend...

    our wedding/honeymoon was 11.5k

one of my friends is spending 25k on her wedding/honeymoon and i think its stupid to be honest. i would never spend that much on a wedding.

Weddings a small budget can be amazing so dont worry xx

Linzmum - this is admirable. I failed miserably with the food! I wanted to do a pot luck in a village hall but one side of the family hated this idea and contributed a large part of the budget. And that got the ball rolling and we have now a few more contributions.

We have a partial budget of £1.5k but we're not doing things the traditional way. There are several things that my OH and i really want to have. He desperately wants a marquee, he puts them up for a living so i think he's nuts, but his boss quoted us £6k for it. I want the Alfred Angelo Disney Cinderella dress but neither of us wants to be in debt. We're both realistic, and the wedding vows are the most important bit so we're getting married in a reg office and going to lunch with our close family and then when we have the money we're going to shell out for a blessing and the mahoosive marquee

Littlemissbossy: well we cheated slightly wth food. I am doing personlised picnic lunches for 30 for the mid-day meal and have ask each adult guest to pay the £15 per head for a hot buffet in the evening, which everyone was more than happy to do. So that has saved us tons as theres around 100 evening guests. We are on target to get a fairly big wedding on the £1000 budget now so I'm really looking forward to it :D

We haven't really set a budget as such but are trying to get as many deals as possible and keep costs low. You can do a beautiful wedding without it looking cheap! My mum is buying my dress so I don't have to pay for that, my aunt and a friend is doing the sit down meal for me and paying for it, nan is paying for drink and buffet, cousin is paying for car and cake which I'm getting a deal at £360 and MIL is paying for suits so all I really have to concentrate on is the ceremony, photographer and other bits n bobs :)
