HI all, I'm struggling with how best to order a bridesmaids dress for my one and only bridesmaid/maid of honor. I Love my sister dearly and we mostly get along like a house on fire but she doesnt half make life difficult some times. In July last year she emigrated to the falkland Islands (yes you did read that correctly and no she is not in the military).
I've got my heart set on the Tru3 8r1d3 M570 bridesmaids dress and my sister absolutly loves it so is very happy with my choice. The dress takes 5 months to order. Unfortunatly it is going to cost her £2000 to fly back for the wedding so will be arriving 2 weeks before the wedding and flying back out a week after the wedding, posting anything bigger than a letter will cost approx £100 and 4 weeks to get out there.
Is it best to get her to measure herself and order and hope for the best, knowing she intends on losing weight? or risk a size smaller than she is? I'm thinking of having the back changed to a corset back rather than a zip which would allow a little leeway with the fitting and potentially mean I wont have to find a seamstress who can do alterations in less than a week!
Thoughts?

My sister's other bridesmaid lives abroad so had to also have her fittings and alterations made within a week before the wedding, it can be done as long as the seamstress is prepared for it so book one in early.
I'd order in a dress according to her measurements now, dresses can generally be altered by 2 sizes.

I would get her to order it to her home and arrange alterations there. Then it will be all ready for your day when she arrives and no stress there

Order it for her size now, if she is home 2 weeks before the wedding that will allow enough time for any alterations

Emily, no company will post to the Falklands and apparently there are no seamstresses out there either so getting her to have it altered would mean having someone's mum who is good with a needle take it in. Not something im willing to risk with a £300 dress
Blimy, Surprised by that. In which case I would speak to your seamstress and explain that it will have to be done in those 2 weeks. At least then she can plan the time to do it into her work schedule.

It's not all that surprising when you learn that the entire population of the islands is 2600 people and that includes the military personnel stationed over there.

Wow, I didn't realise that at all. No not very surprising then!

Faye, it's a long shot and a bit of a round the houses way of getting it there, but does she know any military personnel on the island? If so they might give her the BFPO address and you could send it out to her in their name.

You shouldn't have any issues finding a seamstress willing to do the alterations in that time frame (if needed), if you make arrangements in advance. Having a lace up back is a great idea.

If this helps, I had this bridesmaid dress for my girls and the dresses did come up small one of the dresses was almost a size too small. We orderd a size 14 and the dress came up far too small to the point that it couldn't be taken out and we had to put a corcet in the back. She had even lost weight so we were quite puzzeld as to why it was far too small. And the other dress (size 10) or though is wasn't a whole size too small it just needed to be taken out a bit. The shop didn't measure them wrong as we remessured the girls there. The dresses are exteamly beautiful but just be carful when ordering the sizes. Many order one size too big and can be taken in? Good luck! Xx
