You need someone you can rely on and trust, someone who will help you out when you need it and be there for you on the day. I generally think family is best if you have sisters or sister-in-laws, but it depends on who you're the closest to I guess x

I intend to ask my four best friends. I have a sister but were not close and she probably wouldnt be too interested anyway.

I'd like my two very good friends from work but one has money problems and as we are on a budget was going to ask them to help out a bit! But then I can't ask one an not the other a they may think i favour one over the other! I'd like my very good friend from school to be one who I can rely on and my brothers girl friend who I know I can also rely on! Xx

Your wedding is 12 months away so hopefully that will give them enough time to save up. You can find cheaper bridesmaid dresses in sales or on v*e*r*y :)

That's what we're doing MrsMalin! We're finding it difficult with 5 bridesmaid, so we've said a max of £30 each, and we've found several purple maxi dresses that we could easily use as bridesmaids dresses, but we want to wait more towards the time (Y)

I chose my best friend who's been there for me through my bad times. Now we are close and she's the friend i've known for the least amount of time. Just pick people/person that you are close to and know who'll help you enjoy your day and make it easier for you

I chose my best friend and my second closest, the ones who have always been there for me.
I do have two sisters but to save the rows (I know there will be some with those two) I decided to speak to them about how they thought about not being bridesmaids and they were understanding and said they id imagine me to bit a bridezilla so are happy to just help in other ways.

I agree with mrscartwrighttobe - the best person/people to have are the ones your close to, trust, will be on hand on the good and bad days and will help enjoy your day more :)

Pick the people that you couldn't imagine not having by your side in the run up to your big day (through smiles and possible tantrums!) and also on your big day. If you don't think someone will help and support you, don't ask them!

I'm lucky that I have 5 beautiful ladies to make my day day extra special; my sis, cousin, sis in law and 2 sis in laws to be :) xxx

I pickd my two best friends and asked them literally 10 mins after I got engaged!
I picked them as I have no sisters or close female cousins and I am glad I just asked them and left it there as there are at least another 5/6 girls I could ask but couldn't pick between!

Doesn't help tho my 2 bridesmaids now aren't really close friends anymore and barely speak, shame as we used to be so close as a little threesome. Ah well, that's a side point!!

    Xx

I had this problem, as the minute I told people we were engaged about 10 assumed they would be bridesmaids! There's a lot of people I feel i "should" ask and in the end I've gone for 5 - my 2 sisters-in-law, and 3BFs. Having a flower girl and page boy as well. Stressing about the budget so I'm giving them £250 and saying top up the rest with your own if you can't find dresses for that price. I don't mind them being in different shoes/accessories etc so they can use what they already have.

Mine was an easy decision: my 4 best friends. I've been friends with 3 of them for over 20 years, and the other for over 10 years. I'm also having OH's 11 year old cousin as we thought it would be nice to include her; she's very excited and OH's mum and aunt and uncle are really pleased we asked her.

I would only pick people I was truly close to, and who I knew were genuinely excited for me and would be supportive. If no-one fit that bill, I'd honestly rather not have anyone.

its really difficult to chose. i chose mine and then fell out with my MOH so i had to pick another bridesmaid (thankfully she was the same size as the MOH so i didn't have to buy new dresses or anything)

all i can say is honestly pick carefully and try and do it a bit closer to the day if you can. i picked mine when i got engaged and we didn't get married until 3 and a half years later so when we set our date i thought it was fine but people do change in that short amount of time

I have chosen (and when I say chosen I mean she assumed but assumed very right!!) my very best friend of over 10 years and then 2 other very good friends and my little sister.
They are all amazing, they have agreed to pay for their own dresses etc and are making planning so easy and so much fun

My SiL.. When we got engaged my cousins all assumed their daughters would be my bridesmaids... Think they thought we're made of money !! That would be 8 girls in total !!! All under 14 by the time we get married.. I really didn't want the extra cost AND the stress of them all being there when I'm trying to get ready ! xxx

I have my auntie (she is like a sister to me) mine and OHs sisters and my best friend, the friend who assumed she was bm has now made it obvious she isnt reliable so i made it obvious that she shouldnt assume as she isnt one, just choose who you really want and can rely on and those who you know will want to be involved x

And my soul saw yours and said

I was lucky that it was an easy choice, my two best friends. I did get asked whether I was going to choose my sister, but the key to this is, you KNOW these people and what they are like. If I wanted my wedding day to be all about my sister, I would have asked her to be my bridesmaid! lol

i had a headache with it, i had a lot of girls who as soon as i got engaged were like well im going to be a bm are'nt it. and i said to few yes but now our lives are completely different are rarely see them inless i beg them to come over as i have a young daughter and no transport alot of the time , and have new better friends so im doing offical inites to ask thos i want to be bm's .
going to ask one of my old friends who is also a major whovian if instead she ca do a reading, find some cool, funny and sweet quotes from DW.
remember you don't have to make everyone a bm to keep them happy, ask them to do a reading or be a witness of the signing of the register etc
