My sister's bridesmaid dress doesn't fit, it's too small around the boobs and hips but she only had a baby 7 weeks ago so I know she's still got some baby weight to loose and hopefully she will fit in to it again the real problem is, the dress doesn't fit in the length either. It's a big ball gown style dress but it's coming to her ankles and looks hideous!

I'm hoping once it fit's her properly it will fall better and won't be so short but what if this doesn't happen?! I have 5 matching dresses so I can't just change them and I can't have my sister in a totally different dress. Can length be altered??

i think it depends on the hem ? to see if theres extra material to make it longer

It depends on the style..if it can be let down at the hem you might gain half and inch..the shoulder straps might be able to be lengthened or it might be able to have the skirt taken off at the waist and lengthened there maybe..or maybe get a bigger size..or is that a silly option??

I've had the dress for ages now so I don't think taking it back is an option.

That's the dress, obviously no straps so nothing can be done there either and it's just too short I don't think even taking the hem down will make any difference. I don't know what's happened but I'm sure it wasn't this short when I brought it, otherwise I wouldn't of brought it lol

It doesn't really make a difference. The dress is just too short, it's past her ankles and looks really bad. The dress on the other bridesmaids are fine, they are floor length

You are saying it is too small at the bust and hips so it will drop once your sister has lost off these areas so it may be fine. The only suggestion I can think of is adding blue netting that matches the dress underneath the hem area and have it peeking out the bottom which would add length to the dress. xx

is there nywhere you can get another one of the same dresses in a bigger size maybe? you can then allways take the dress in if she doesoose weight then u could sell the one you dont want or the other alternative have all the b-maid dresses taken up to like tea length dresses?

I've tried that spooney, Sound's a bit silly but I've got a navy blue and a black tutu so just stuck it to the bottom of the dress to see how it would look, it looked rubbish :-(

I'm just hoping it will drop but I'd need to only give it a couple of months to find out because I'd need to give myself a few months in case I need one made for her

I'm not sure if buying a bigger size would make any difference to the length though. They are from the high street and just standard lengths. I get married in November so really don't wanna make them into tea length. Ahhh x

Ah right it was only a thought as I had that at the end of my wedding dress but then mine wasnt made to full length so it wasnt added for length, just for added detail. It may be worth contacting a local dressmaker just to see if they have any practical ideas to offer you. xx

Not really no, they pretty much fit perfectly.

I think at the moment, my safest option will be to buy new dresses, I'm such a worrier if I just leave it I won't settle

I could do but then it will just look as stupid as the short one does lol

They are ball gowns, so meant to be big and long.

My only other thought is to add an additional hem to her dress but obviously you would need to find a colour match to the dress or to add voile as an overlay to the dress.

I do have a feeling though that the dress will drop as I said once your sis looses that inch or 2 off her bust and hips. I am sure you would have noticed the length when she first tried it on.

I can ask my friends mum who is a dressmaker if she has any other ideas but think what I have already suggested is all that you can really do. xx

The thing is, during labour her pelvis was broken so she isn't mobile at the moment, she is managing to walk a little but there is no way on earth she can exercise and having a new baby her diet seems to of gone out of the window. I'm worried she might not loose the weight and do I risk leaving it till last minute to see if it ends up fitting her and if not, will I have enough time to find a replacement lol x

Ah I really don't know. I think I will just have to buy all new dresses and try and sale the one's I have. I don't want her to feel like she's under pressure to loose weight just for the dress to fit! Thank's for your help though hun xx

Do you want me to ask my friends mum who is a dressmaker or will I just leave it? I did try and suggest a few things but I take it the best idea is to buy new dresses for your bridesmaids. I am sure you would have no problem selling the ones you have. xx

If you could ask her that would be brilliant? I'm not very good at this kind of thing! By looking at it, I just can't see how it could be altered and I'm really worried about just leaving it and waiting to see if she loose weight. The poor thing's under enough stress at the mo xx

.. Isn't there anyway you could get some form of *nice* lace underskirt (I'd go black? But would depend on other colours/accessories)that falls to the ground? Looks as though there is a lovely sheen on the dress so it wont look out of place, and will just detract away from the length...

I recognise those dresses. Debenhams debut range. I have the same in purple. They still sell them so check if they will exchange for a larger size. If you haven't altered them they may exchange for you. Alternatively check on ebay if anyone is selling one in the size you want. Best of luck

Yeah sarsibob1 that's the ones. We're going to pop into town tomorrow so she can try a bigger size and see if that makes a difference to the length, if it doesn't then loosing weight isn't going to help, so we will just have to buy new dresses
