Hi I could do with a bit of advice re number of bridesmaids. So far we are having 4 bridesmaids my sister, my other halfs sister, niece and cousin. Initially I thought having family would be better so I didn't have to choose between friends now I'm thinking I might like to have some friends involved as I spend more time with them. but don't know how many bridesmaids would be to many. Should the number match the groomsmen? Advice about this would be great. Other option is to maybe have friends doing the readings in the church i just don't know if I'd like them there when I'm getting ready. So difficult to decide xx

You can have as many as you want, especially if you can afford it.

Had you thought on how many friends you would like to include? Also how old is everyone?

As GF said, you can have as many bridesmaids as you like! The only thing you'd need to consider is paying for all their dresses, shoes, make up, hair... or asking them to chip in for something if they'd be happy to. I don't think you need to match the number of groomsmen.. we're not. I have 4 bridesmaids, 1 flower girl and 2 best men (and my dad who will be matching). Not important to match.. just depends if you want even numbers for the photos etc. x

As many as you can afford hun.
There's no right or wrong amount! I'm not having any bridesmaids apart from my daughter because of cost issues but also because I haven't got many girlfriends that I've known that long.

Pick wisely! When you get close you will want all the support you can get - I have found this has come more from my friends than my family. But also bear in mind that too many may cause un necessary stress. I only have two of my friends as bridesmaids but all of my friends have been supporting me even though they are not directly involved in the wedding!

I've got 4 bridesmaids, 1 flower girl. 2 ushers, 1 ring bearer and 2 best men. We've said to bridesmaids we'd pay for their dresses but everything else they would have to pay for themselves as we can't afford to pay for everything. My (twin sister) chief bridesmaid is being a pain in bum at the moment so sometimes think why do I bother even asking her to be bridesmaid, also my other twin sisters hardly ever speak- they're 15 and going through that stage of bring nightmare teenagers. But at least I've got my friend lol. Choose wisely is all I can say

We're having 6 BM's (All friends, no family), 5 FG's (All family/godchildren) and not sure how many GM yet, as FI hasn't narrowed it down yet! X

Have as many or as few as you like.

It was just by chance the number of our BM's/FG matched the number of groomsmen.

I like the idea of asking close friends to do readings to include them. Just remember bridesmaids are expensive, dresses, shoes, hair and makeup all add up xxx

Yeah bridesmaids are expensive, I have two and seriously considered asking a third when we got closer over this year, however I realised we couldn't afford it.

    Each bridesmaid has had

    A dress
    bouquet
    hair piece
    necklace
    earring
    presents

It all adds up and we're even having our bridesmaids wear their own shoes.

It sure is expensive to have bridesmaids unless your going to ask them to pay, which I personally don't agree with!!

I have 4 bridesmaids & a flower girl, I will be buying their dresses, shoes, jewellery, flowers, hair, nails, make up.
I've also had to pay for 2 cars instead of 1 as 1 wouldn't have accommodated us all.

You should have however many you like, I only have 2 bridesmaids, my best friend and oh sister.
Just bear in mind that if you have a mixture of friends and family members, or friends that don't normally mix you may have a clash of personalities. This happened to a friend of mine. X

Oh I forgot hair to that list of things I've bought for bridesmaids-they said they don't want make-up, but that might be something else if they change their mind.
