    Hey
I have a cake question. I was thinking i ll wait till next year to sort cake but have now been told cake makers get booked up and can only do so many in a month eek.

Contact a baker and she said its best to do a consultation now and book it in. I am freaking out that i am missing things already.

Anything else i should be thinking about?

    Hey Amy,

I wouldn't leave it till next year, I would say 1 year before would be the latest to leave it.

If you know which company you want to use you can book with them for the consultation and then you have your date secure but have plenty of time to change the design and flavors etc.

In general all your suppliers should be booked a year before as people do tend to book quite far in advance for weddings. It gives you a peace of mind if you know they are booked.

There is a great checklist with dates at the top of the forum, use that as a reference and we are always here if you need any advice :)

    Hi All

I think it depends, if you love knowing you got a bargain and you still love the other invitation design it may well be worth saving a few pennies, I love stationary and am a hoarder but realistically the sad fact is most people will throw our invitations away after the wedding :(

In terms of booking people Amy, I booked all of mine last year for may 2018 and some said they were really booked up already such as cars and the DJ so I wouldn't hold off or feel you are jumping the gun by getting things booked up. But don't panic you still have time just start looking and running things past your OH, fairs and the wedding shows are a great place to look too, and remember if you are getting a dress made for you they can need up to 8 months depending on designer xx

Wow Lynsey, have you decided on style etc.

I don't really like cake so i think this is why I didn't really think about it. My cousin stayed a couple of weeks ago and she said her whole 4 tiered cake went and it was a big part of the day, that's what made me think about it. Eek.

I think I want an odd number of tiers on mine and I also like the ones with slightly different heights in the layers?
Have any of you got different shaped layers? I quite like a hexagonal base layer

We have a three tiered cake with lace effect icing and ribbons. I really didn't want anything OTT, our whole theme is shabby chic and we saw the perfect cake at a fayre. We had seen a few others previously and tried their samples but they were horrible. Our cake sample was lovely, chocolate with caramel. Yummy!

Had a really rough weekend. I doubted all the decisions I have made, was feeling really off about the wedding. Feeling a bit better now but I hope I don't have any more days like that.

I think its a natural part of wedding planning to doubt the decisions made. I've already doubted my dress and venue and doubted if the stationary will look any good if I make it.

Even though the day is worth it there is also a lot of stress as we all want it to be a lovely day.

Hi Jenny what's your date in May there are a few May Brides here.

I get married on the 26th May and I already have my dress, you can start looking now but I would advise buying a year before just because of the time it can take for some dresses to arrived xx

    Hi
I took a real gamble and ordered a dress online! I seen one I really likes and it was ridiculously cheap so I just thought if it came and I didn't like it I would be able to sell it due to how cheap it was. It came last week and it's perfect just what I wanted and I can't believe the quality for what I paid for it!!!
So excited now I just want it to be here ( my date isn't until Aug 2018)

    That's fantastic!

I got frustrated last week over veils. I can't justify spending £70-100 on what is effectively a new curtain. So while browsing on 3b@y I saw one for £7 and ordered. If it's awful then I know I have to spend the money but if it's ok then I've myself some money.

Hi Stacey- our date isn't a special date to us- however we both love May as weather is usually quite good- not too hot snd we thought it woukd be nice that it is bank holiday so people can make a real weekend of it- we looked at March as Easter is early in 2018 but decided can be very cold and has been known to snow!

    How about you?

    Hi Ladies,

Michelle - its the day after my aunts birthday who is no longer with us, she was like a second mum to me so I really wanted it to be as close as possible, we also really like May and when we were taking a walk around our parish church on the 26th May last year the weather was perfect so we decided the date would be great. We did look at other dates in the year but there were too many birthdays and other occasions.

I was sitting with OH last night and I thought to myself I really don't care how big the day is or if people decide they don't want to be there as long as I marry you and get to spend the rest of my life with you I'm happy.

Feeling really positive at the moment.

Lynsey - would love to know what the quality is like when you get it the one I really like is 180 but I can't bring myself to buy it that's the same price as the wedding car.

So started the 8 W33K BL00D Sug4r d13t on Saturday! I am 2 lbs down already so really chuffed, although I would love some toast hahah!

I am going to W3d2b3 for my veil I think, they had some lovely cathedral length sparkly ones for 80 quid which is pretty good.

Setting RSVP for 1st Feb? do you reckon this will be okay? 3 Months to chase and amend things

My date was picked because May seems to be our month! our anniversary of being together is May 16th 2010, we got engaged May 20th 2016 and getting Married May 19th 2018

    Hi Emz,

Are you all sorted with the house? I would book as soon as possible with most things as you get the better prices and a better chance of getting your supplier of choice.

I think I need to stop buying things, the lady who has so far done a lot of personalised items for me sent me a picture of a new item. I think she was hoping I would buy one straight away but I'm not so keen.

I am currently working on a list for a bulk booking at the hotel, we are just using the local pr3mi3r3 7nn but we love them, rooms open for bookings in May so going to call and bulk book hoping for a small discount! Luckily most people on our guest list are fairly easy to organise :) so far looks as though I am booking at least 17 rooms and I am still waiting for confirmations. And this is before the evening guests have been asked!

I think it depends how many rooms you have available. We are quite lucky with our venue as it has 99 rooms so we have a bit of flexibility. We decided to look at those who need a room for two nights like parents, bridesmaids etc and sort the bookings for them and then the rest can book one if they want one.

I have just messaged those who I am pretty confident are definitely coming to the wedding asking if they want a room and how many nights.
the pr3m 7nn does bulk bookings through a dedicated line and I think you get a discount of 10% if you pay the deposit up front so if that saves guests money I'm happy to take it on.
I would say about 75 - 80% of our all day guests have asked for rooms so far

Wiz, why don't you see if your Mum would be willing to do one? I'd totally feel let down as well, they'd have to have a ruddy good reason why they didn't want to do it. Also, a lot of brides do a speech these days too, especially if the groom is really bad at speaking in public. Might be something worth considering.

His brother who is best man will be amazing so I have no worries on that, but its starting to look like we will just have 1 speech for the entire day which is weird

Liz, would your father maybe do a toast rather than a speech. My father is no longer with us so i am adding touches of Jamaica into my dad so i can be reminded of him throughout. You will have a special moment with your dad at some point in the day i am sure which will mean just as much.

I genuinely don't think he is willing to do anything I can sort of understand my step dad not wanting to do it, he is my step dad and with my atual dad there it may be a bit weird for him, just frustrating that my dad (yes we aren't that close as I didn't grow up in his house but I still saw him regularly) isn't interested in trying just for one day

How about you and OH create a short video montage of photos of your growing up and your life together so far, its something different takes the pressure away from OH and includes your families too so it would be like your dad giving a speech too but just in video form.

Made some more bows last night only 10 realised I didn't have enough for the favour boxes. If the ribbon I have ordered arrives on time them I should be able to do some more this weekend just need to work out how many to make roughly....

Did someone on here say that they had main their own Rose Trees, I like the look of them just don't know where I would put them or buy them from? Just wondered if I should bother because we are having pedestals for the church so thinking I could just bring them to the venue instead???
