Me too Emma, which is surprising as I had my heart set on a naked cake!
Have emailed (well, fb messaged) 14 people and have had 4 responses so far. Cheapest at the moment is £200 for naked cake and £220 for the other cake (to serve 110 people), which includes any flowers, hessian, fruit, etc. and a free topper if wanted. She also has a wooden base to hire for free with a refundable security deposit, offers tasting/consultation sessions and only an extra £10 for set up and delivery. Quite impressed with that as thought the quote for the second one would be a lot higher than the naked cake!
She also seems like a genuinely lovely person.. have instantly warmed to her and already have a good impression x

Wow that is a good quote for an iced cake! It seems worth it if you get all of the extras included! x

I don't know if I'm being ignorant but she referred to it as a ganache/buttercream finish so maybe that is different/cheaper than icing..!! x
Yeah it is different and will be easier to work with that's will probs be why its cheaper! but id say even more tasty than icing x

Yeah it's cream so it's thinner than icing! Much nicer though icing always makes me feel a bit sick lol x

I'm confused lol! I've had another good quote from someone based locally to our venue so she wouldn't have far to transport the cake, however, means we'd have to travel around 50 mins there and back for the tasting/consultation session.. whereas the other one is Swindon based so easy to attend the tasting, but further for her to transport the cake (although she would only charge £10).... hmmmmm

Have they both quoted the same price?
If you factor in the cost in petrol for you to get there it might be easier to make a decision, I'd be more inclined to go for the one closer to me so I can get to her easily but it's up to you. Would there be an option for you to transport the cake yourself? x

They've quoted the same price for the naked cake but cake maker 2 has quoted £30 more for the buttercream one (although if I went with her I would see if she could match cake maker 1's price).
I think it makes sense to use the Swindon based one as you're right, by the time we've factored in petrol to visit cake maker number 2 it would work out more expensive. I'm happy to pay the Swindon based one the £10 for the set up and delivery, just worried about it being quite a long way to transport a cake, what if it got ruined?! Although I'm sure they do it all the time lol x

Yeah they will do it all the time but if you are worried you could check with them that it would be ok to be transported that far. I would say go for the Swindon one, I am sure the cake will be boxed up and protected on the journey plus you can pop in and see them so much easier x

I already told her where it would need delivering to and she never said it would be a problem, so I'm probably just over-thinking things like usual hehe. I do think it would be easier with her and she's made the best "offer" if you like.. also warmed to her more than anyone else I have spoken to today. I know suppliers are going to be nice to you to charm you but she made the effort to tell me I had a gorgeous venue and she was very prompt at replying. I will speak to OH about it properly tonight :) he will be buzzing for a taster session, he LOVES cake lol! x

Lovely dress Emma, you look gorgeous! I don't think you need to lose any weight but if it will make you feel more comfortable then go for it.
I do love naked cakes and I've had my heart set on one but the 2nd cake has completely thrown me lol! It was the one you posted on my fb wall Katie.. your fault!!! OH likes them both as well so he's no help. I think from a practical point of view the buttercream one would be more sensible, as naked cakes will dry out if left out all day (and I want it on display all day, otherwise it's just a waste), and we can have different flavours/colours under the buttercream, whereas I wouldn't want that with the naked cake as wouldn't want the tiers to be different colours. I'd maybe try and "rustic" the buttercream cake up by wrapping hessian/twine round the tiers and putting more flowers and fruit on the tiers as well, like the naked one.
Guess the main thing is just booking in with a cake maker, have a taster sesh, get a deposit down.. we can always make our mind up about what cake we want later :) x

Had a major wobble today about my venue not being big enough!!! We have 105 day guest inclu. us and about 180 at night. I just could not visualise everyone fitting in! I adore our venue it's gorgeous and I fall in love with it every time I visit. I text my WP and we've just been on the phone for 20 minutes and she has finally put my mind at rest. I'm going over to the venue on the 27th to see a wedding ready set up for a wedding reception of 136 on the 28th to allow me to see how it WILL work lol
I tell you, my wedding planner is a god send.

Shoes are gorgeous but I don't think they look like they're worth that much money... if it was a pair of L0ubs or something more identifiable then maybe you could justify the cost, but I bet you could get something very similar to those somewhere for a lot less!! x

I love the simplistic feel of it and it would fit in with everything well. I did have my heart set on bird cages with flower garlands woven in and out of the bars but struggling to find the right cages at a reasonable price.. don't want to spend a fortune! I think these could be sorted out much cheaper (esp the flowers - China jobby!) x

CommentAuthorMrsEmmaP
Yeah you could probably make them yourself for about £5 each! All of the birdcages I have seen are so expensive, I did want them originally but I just couldn't justify the price. You could always alternate and put birdcages on every other table and those on the others? If you put the same flowers in the birdcages it would look lovely x
