We're doing sweetie jars - the sweets will be all different pastel colours to match our pastel colour scheme. We've been asking my auntie and one of my bridesmaids to save baby food jars so we can use them instead of buying jars :) I've got polka dot material tops to put over the lids and am going to tie on with twine, and we have 'love is sweet, enjoy our treat' stickers to put on the front of the jars :)

Hi Naomi
I think we are going for sweetie jars that's what we both decided on so far, will personalise them with labels to x
Yeah I looked at the heart chocolates they seem popular....I was going to put mine in little coloured boxes that matched my colour
CommentAuthorNaomiD23
Lovely idea Flossie....I then thought miniature bottles of wine white or rose for ladies and red for the men and tie an bow on and little tag saying thank you....what do you think?? x

I think we're going to buy charity pins for ours so that the money goes to a good cause. I might put them in organza bags with a couple of sweets too.

Sarah D to Be - hopefully it wont increase too much, the receptionist said it doesn't usually go up by much, I think £450 is a lot to start with MDouglas - the dress I have my eye on is Maggie sottero emma x

for wedding favours I was thinking of keeping them small and buying personalised love heart sweets, which will have our names on and the date of our wedding, good for adults and kids :)
CommentAuthorSarah D
Mrs Nicholls it is expensive ah! I was shocked to see how it varied through the country to as its lower here xx

Well because the wedding is still quite a way I would buy a few bottles every few weeks so then wouldn't notice a huge cost. Still have plenty time to decide I guess x
CommentAuthorNaomiD23
I then thought because it is a Summer wedding to have strawberries in little brown paper bags with a little bow attached saying thank you etc x
CommentAuthorFlossie
Like the strawberries idea but the difficultly is finding a way to store them on the day, and means they will need to be made fresh the night before or on the day.. maybe you could ask your venue to help you out with them x

Ordered our wedding rings yesterday! Got a really good deal on them so we couldn't refuse! Mine had £50 off and OH's had £40 off then we got an extra 10% off the total :)
All we have to do now is book cars which my parents are kindly paying for and get OH a suit!! Then all of the big things are done! Now we just need to get saving!! x

Exciting Emma :) you've done so much if that's all you have left to do!
I woke up in the middle of the night the other night and couldn't get back to sleep as was worrying about saving enough and paying for everything.. not sure where that came from as I haven't been particularly worried about it. Scary stuff though x

I still have little bits like centrepieces, jewellery, underwear, getting my dress altered etc but nothing big!
We are really worried about it at the moment as we haven't saved anywhere near as much as we should of done!! We haven't been able to save over the last few months because we have had lots to pay for and our bills keep getting bigger! Luckily OH paid a hefty deposit on his bike insurance so he gets from August to November free, which will give us an extra £200 a month so we will be saving that and other bills will be due to finish/ lower towards the end of the year, but we are still worried we might be short! FIL hasn't given us the money he said he would since Jan so he has only given us £100 in total, he hasn't said he won't give it to us but he is avoiding OH a bit! It's a shame because it is money we really could do with! It is our birthdays next month so we will save any money we get from that! We are probably worrying about nothing but it scares me! x

I know what you mean.. we originally calculated it as though we were paying for EVERYTHING ourselves and I worked out we could do it.. but I have no idea how I worked that out because there is not a chance we would have been able to save so much in time. We are really lucky in that our parents are helping out with a lot but I still can't help thinking of the worst case scenario - like what if they can't afford to contribute the amount they offered, how will we pick up the costs? Like you, I'm probably worrying about nothing, but it is really scary and just gets scarier the closer and closer it gets!!
I'm sure everything will be fine and work out beautifully for everyone! x

Yeah we couldn't do it without my parents! OH's mum is supposed to be paying for the flowers, but like his dad she seems to be avoiding giving us the money! I have worked out our budget to include that though so it's not too much of a problem if she can't pay, but we were kind of relying on FIL to help us out a lot. I'm sure we can do it but it puts so much more pressure on us! I think it's how fast the months are going that makes me so scared! Pay days come and go so fast! x

I'm feeling the same girls, our savings account is looking shameful! we really need to get the finger out and save hard, Gran has offered to contribute towards my dress but she hasn't said how much and id never ask so I am still budgeting for that as we are paying for it, we are paying for all our wedding ourselves and if anyone in the family offers to contribute then we will be grateful but not counting on it as we don't know if they can afford to help us and wouldn't expect it. I know we can afford it but unexpected bills don't help, so hoping for no more surprises and now im back to healthy eating and H2B is doing the same we wont be eating out getting the odd takeaway so that can save easily £100 a month! Sure it will work out perfectly but I cant help but worry I've always been like that xx

We are trying for £100 a month but sometimes we can't even manage that! It's horrible realising how much everything costs! My nan and grandad are giving us £500 as a wedding present but have said we can have it before to pay for something if we need to, so we always have that as a back up but we are using that as a last resort because we really want to save it for after the wedding! x

We have to pay half of our venue in Feb then my parents are paying the rest which is due 4 weeks before. Everything else is due about 2 weeks before the wedding so we still have a while to save but everything being due at once is scary! x

My mum and dad discussed between them what they wanted to contribute when they came to look around our venue.. my mum said they agreed that they would pick up the venue bill between them and pay half each.. although I've not actually spoken to my dad about it and he's not brought it up, so I keep wondering if he's happy with that... he's already paying for the photographer as well although I expect he will be getting it at a discounted rate as it's one of his photographer friends! x

Yeah think that's what is getting me that it will all be due about the same time, I think by end of the year whatever we have in savings ill take even half and pay it to the venue then wont seem such an amount in march xx

That's a good idea! I didn't think of that! The only one we can pay early is our DJ as I can just log on to his website and pay any amount via paypal, I think I may start paying him off in a few months then it is one less thing to worry about nearer the time! x

Yeah our venue have said we can pay at any time but they have requirements at certain points. So I think ill get that being the biggest one out the way early as poss! this band is 2 weeks before and the videographer is as well, our photographer is pay on collection of albums but we have paid half up front, I will get as much as poss paid up front to as I suppose in the weeks leading up it will already be stressful enough without worrying about paying people on time xx

It is a very scary though of how much things cost..... Like you ladies have said though, if we can start paying things off early it will help when the 'final' bills are due. OH is currently saving £400 a week and I'm managing £200 a month at the moment but it's still hard going. We have a good payment plan in place and have allocated 1 thing one month and another thing another so that we can take large amounts of different things (I hope that makes sense).

Ohh not been on for a week and so much has happened with you all!! Hope dress shopping with your Gran goes well today Sarah D. We are thinking of lighting candles during our ceremony to remember the people that are no longer with us. Naomi, love the wine favours idea but may need an alternative for those that are tee total. Good idea to buy over time to spread the cost. My dad and MIL both make awesome jam so we're asking each to make some for favours and can alternate them on tables so couples get one of each. H2b always tells me to stop overthinking but I agree money is the hardest part. We can pay off our photographer over time which we have started doing and were lucky that my parents offered us an amount which completely covered catering (and meant we got discount too by paying all at once). X

I worry about not having enough money all of the time. OH isn't great at saving and was in a lot of debt when we first got together so I have to be the one in control all of the time. I have now told him I want him to transfer me the money he needs to save each month so I can keep better track of it as he's been dipping into it every now and then to cover his overdraft which I'm not happy about. I have resigned myself to the fact that he will never change although has got better since being with me but as long as I stay on top of things and make sure things are paid then we will be ok. I have worked out a certain amount we need to save each month and with the help of my parents (they are paying for venue and my dress, shoes, headpiece and veil) then we can just about do it. I still panic every now and then though that we will be short when the time comes to paying all the balances.

That's great news Sarah D. Did your Gran go with you like you planned? What did she say when she saw you in it?
I spent the afternoon with my MI. She makes hand made lace so offered to do my garter and was teaching me so I got to do a bit myself. It was actually really therapeutic so can't wait to see it finished. X
