We still have loads of details to don.. The bit I'm rubbish at.

    Invites
    Order of service
How we're decorating the centre piece
    Rings
    Flowers
    Music choices
    Gifts
    Favours
And heavens knows what else I've not thought about yet

    Urghh.

It will all come together piece by piece! We still need to do our invites and other stationery like the table plan... I've got ideas and designs ready though, it's just finalising it all now and actually making them which will be the time consuming and interesting part!

Mil has been texting me all morning saying how excited she is and there's still a year to go lol.

My mums been excited since the day we got engaged .. We were planning on a long engagement but oh no mum had me in a wedding dress shop the Saturday after we got engaged!!

Shouldnt complain it's nice to have all the support however when it comes down to the decisions they'll help look at all the options but then say it's our wedding so we need to make the final choice .. Oh doesn't do decisions so the final choice is all down to me.

At least mil is creative .. Oh has already volunteered her to do the stationary and she had no idea bless her sole!

Need your opinion guys please on timing - how long is the gap between ceremony and wedding breakfast at your wedding?we're having a church wedding with the church only being 10 min drive from the venue. I was thinking service at 12.30 will arrive at the venue just before 2pm and have wedding breakfast at 4pm. Which gives plenty of time for the guests to mingle have some canapés and champagne. Plus we'll have time to have some photos taken and talk to the guests as well. The wedding planner from the venue thinks it's too much time and the guests will get bored and hungry. Although we want to have some live music and garden games. She's suggesting wedding breakfast at 15.15-15.30... Which i don't think is long enough and i love this part of a wedding!:but at the same time don't know people to get bored... opinions needed!

Also how long is the gap between the end of the speeches and evening guests arriving? ?

    Thank you !

I was discussing this with my mum the other day ...

Our ceremony is also 12.30 so that should finish about 1 ... Then our reception is about a 20 minute drive (at least because we have a vintage bus for our guests) so that takes is to 1.30ish .. Guest can probably enjoy canapés while we get photos and things to prevent them getting bored so I think we're going for about 3 or 3.30 as well to give us chance to have the meal which will probably take over an hour and then speeches meaning leaving the Reception room about 4.20 5 o'clock thrn evening do to start about 7 because they need a good hour to change the room set up and get any entertainment in there x

I have to say I think it may be too much time. We are in the same place the whole day but our ceremony ends at around 2.30 (civil cermony so only a short one too), and we're sitting down at 4 for the wedding breakfast, which leaves around an hour and a half for photographs beforehand and for guests to mingle/have a drink.

Our speeches will take place between 6-6.30 and the evening reception will start at 7.30. The time in between gives everyone some down time and they can do what they like... sit in the bar with a drink, go out in the gardens, go up to their rooms to freshen up... xx

Thanks ladies. Our venue seems to think that wedding breakfast shouldnt be later than 3.30.. but our photographer thought that having a bit more time before the meal was a good idea as it usually goes very quickly... confused!!

Are you planning any entertainment in those 2 hours after the meal and before the evening guests arrive?

From a photographer's perspective the more time they have the better... but I think 2 hours for photos and for your guests to mingle is more than long enough and you could comfortably have your wedding breakfast at 3.30. I would be more inclined to listen to the advice of the wedding planner. We didn't set our times - we just asked our venue what the "norm" is, and in their experience the times they outlined for us work the best, so we just went with it. :)

We've got a magician to mingle with the guests after the wedding breakfast and will also welcome our evening guests when they start arriving xx

I think my concern is that we won't have time to talk to our guests as we'll be having photos taken and we'll only get a chance to chat to everyone during/ after the meal

I think that's about right Flossie .. It's a bit easier when it's all at the same reception too!

I know church weddings are typically earlier and we need to take into account travel time .. Then it's whether we have the big gap between arriving at reception and the wedding breakfast when canapés will be served and photos taken or whether to have the big gap between wedding breakfast and evening reception .. It's a difficult one because at least there's canapes floating around before wedding breakfast but then if the bigger gap was after it gives us chance to make any final touches to the evening reception set up because we have photobooth, giant scaleltrix (don't ask - my mums decision but does fit with both our jobs) and then we also want a Chinese lantern decorating table so just lets us be double check before guests arrive to make sure things aren't too crowded and cluttered x

But I like the idea of having a magician and perhaps taking the time after the meal to chat to get guests if there isn't enough time before the meal

Maybe I need to think of some entertainment before the evening do to keep the guests happy. As I focused too much on the bit after the church and before the meal and wanted the evening to start earlier... At the same time don't want the guests to go hungry for too long!

How old is your lo mmw2b? You'll probably be able to sign him up to the kids clubs over there they have some great ones!

When we went to Majorca last I must've been 8 or 9 and my sister 2 or 3 and the kids club decided to decorate the kids clubhouse so we all did the painting and then one night they arranged to take all the kids out into the town for pizzas and things and taught us some Spanish which we still remember now!

I even remember crying on the transfer bus leaving the kids club team I enjoyed it that much LOL

    Hi,

Working my way through teaching myself the forum and website so thought I'd post on here!

I've been engaged since 7 March 2010 and finally set a date for June 2016! We are getting married 10 years to the date when we first emailed each other so the date is quite special!

However, so far we only have the venue, DJ and Registrar booked although we have chosen the transport and just need to pay the deposit.

Any hints and tips for photographers and videographers would be great as this is an area which we are really struggling with and seems awfully expensive!

My photographer is the oh of the lady who comes to p4rkrun every Saturday morning in her free time of being a nurse and tKes photos of all the runners for free .. We originally asked if she'd do it but she didn't want the responsibility as she only does it as a hobby but got is a good deal for her oh to do it and she said she'll come too and take some photos which will be nice for her to get some experience!

Ask around someone you know might know someone

    Hi Vikki

    Welcome to UK bride.

We booked out photographer on recommendation and she also had a great setoff policies in place for backing up, number of pics to each memory card was low so if one much up we wouldn't loose many pics, she takes around 100pics per card and usually takes about 10 of each shot so at most 10 wold go missing if anything went corrupt, she has a good plan in case she's severely ill or has to cancel due to circumstances outwith her control. We loved her photographs and albums and all her packages also included album in the price. We are £1050 for the whole day and she wont leave until she has every shot we want.

Our videographer is also based on recommendation by friends and I cry at most of his videos I've seen there brill! we have whole day coverage with him and its £780 for the whole day and then we get a video of the day with a choice of music.

    xx

I don't think that's too much time at all. Our service is at 1 over around 2 then mingle a bit outside church we are having live music, champers, tea/coffee biscuits for guests between 3-5 then into reception room at 5 for speeches and then dinner. That's the way most weddings I have been to are.

MrsMW your LO should be a good age for a holiday then. We are hoping to get a cheapy start of sept next year to take LO. Feel bad not taking him on honeymoon lol

So, think my list is finally getting shorter and shorter as the weeks trundle by! We've sorted almost all our vendors, went and picked out some artificial flowers in a few places last week - R@nge, Dun3lm, and the like - to get ideas for bouquets and possible centrepieces (still can't quite decide between flower- or candle-based).

Outfits, measuring the venue for some of the decorations, and sorting menu (costs of buffet vs sit-down meal) is all that's left, I think, plus picking up our authorities (or whatever happens with them) and talking with our registrar about what we want in the ceremony.

Hello all and welcome to the newbies :)

I am still alive, just seem to have been really busy lately but I've been trying to read through what you have all been up to!

Hopefully our plain bands will be ready in a couple of weeks to try before the jeweller starts working his magic on them. The one you tried looks lovely Sarah.

I've been trying to come up with ideas for candle holders made from jars and glitter the past couple of weeks so if they are any good I'll let you see!

Pleased to see some love for Durham here too, lived here all my life and wouldn't want to live anywhere else :)

OH has bought F1f@16 today so is currently shouting at the tv - I don't get the attraction myself! lol

My oh isn't allow ps games or anything because we only have extra tv channels on one of our TVs and he refuses to have his games on the equally large tv in the bedroom. I now just see him sat playing s1ms on his laptop all the time ...

He claims it's just to design houses because its good software for that but I'm not convinced! There is a mini me s1m and surprise surprise mini oh s1m too .. ?! Surely it isn't normal playing on the s1ms at 23 but hey ho.

Less than 1 year to go until our big day now .. It's finally sinking in that I don't think I'll be as skinny and fit as I wanted on my wedding day .. I wanted to be in my prime just to look back and think you know what I felt better than ever. I thought starting to train back in January - March would have meant I'd have been like I was when I was 16 again for our big day but I guess no one can predict my luck I've had recently
