My H2B has a slight stutter but his worst nightmare would be to make a speech in front of everyone... it will be hard enough to get him to say his vows. We feel one of us needs to make a speech to thank people for coming so i might do it... what your thoughts on this? Should i follow the rules of the grooms speech?
    Ta xx

I think it's a great idea. Some brides also do a speach as well as the groom. It's your day so do things the way you want and that wil make you both feel comfortable. xx

I'll be doing a speech at our wedding, however it will be just me and h2b doing them (we don't have a best man, or father of the bride). He'll do the best man part of the speech with the jokes etc and I'll take on the grooms role and do the thank you parts.

As long as your h2b doesn't mind you taking over from him then by all means go for it.

i will be doing a speech instead of h2b he doesn't like talking in front of large groups even though its only family and no one he doesn't know. we are only having the bridal party at the actual ceremony because he doesn't think he would manage the vows in front of everyone.

I might do one, because I want an extra little touch for my French guests (very few of them but still), following my mum's speech in French, so I can briefly explain in English what she said, and also my dad won't be with us so I want to give him a message as well, seeing we're having a videographer.

I think it's a lovely idea - you want h2b to enjoy his day too and worrying about it will only make it worse. I know I'd be terrible giving a speech. I once flew through a 20 min presentation in 5 mins, speed reading/forgetting diagrams and charts etc, it was an absolute nightmare so I can imagine the pressure he'd be feeling. I think it's lovely you want to do that for him to save him stressing x

Why is a woman not good enough to hold a mans role? And why is this a mans role in the first place?

    By all means do it.

hubby to be is asking me to do one and if I do one he will do one. I personally think both of us doing it is too much so am trying to get out of it myself, leaving just his speech.

If you want to do a speech do one, don't worry about tradition! Neither I nor h2b really want to make a speech, we may end up doing one together. xx

How about doing the speech together? It would be nice to give him the opportunity to say a few lovely things about you, but you're also there for back up if he needs it?x

My mum did the speech at her wedding as her husband was very shy, she loved doing it. I say go for it, why do you have to stick to every tradition. xx

we are writing our own vows so I think it will be a bit redundant for me to do a speech too as everything nice I have to say will be in my vows. I really hope I dont have to give a speech

As you may all have sensed, I do like having my say. However, neither I nor W2B will do a speech on the day. We already have two FOBs and 3 best men all fighting over who gets to say what when!!

That's a very good point Gracelett, if the bride is speaking as well as the groom, the fob and the bm the speeches really do need to be kept a little bit shorter. With the best will in the world most guests can't keep their attention span for a long period!
