Well traditionally it was to hide the smell of the bride, as people only bathed once a year.

Now its just to look pretty.

If you don't want one, don't have one.

is it that u dont want flowers or u just dont want anything hun, coz if its u dont want flowers may be u could find something else, maybe feathers or have seen a couple bouquets made out of crystal, but if its u dont want anything then there is no reason u should have anything, after all its your day so your choice after all u are the one that has to carry it xx

Herbs we're often carried to symbolise fertillity, Greeks carried ivy as a symbol of never ending love and in primitive marriages herbs and spices were carried to ward off evil spirits. Most wedding traditions have come about to ward of evil spirits and aid fertillity (cake and confetti). Flowers, I think, are a very personal choice. It's your wedding - if you don't want flowers, dont have them or you could consider a wrist corsage?

    The origin of wedding flowers...

'Wedding flowers and fragrant herbs played another important role in weddings during Europe’s middle ages. During that time period, it was traditional to bathe only twice a year. This was due to the labor involved in preparing enough hot water for the process, as well as the rarity and expense of soap.

These bath times usually fell before Christmas, an important time of year for everyone, and during the summertime. The problem was that weddings usually took place in the spring. The result of this was that the wedding party wasn’t usually at their most fresh.

A solution was devised using floral and herbal arrangements. Herbs would be sewn or placed into the dress, and the bride would carry a large bouquet of flowers (often wearing them in her hair as well). This masked any bodily odors and made the wedding more enjoyable for both bride and groom.'

I'm not having flowers, becasue personally i don't want to spend all that money on something that'll die in a few days. Toying with the idea of having a crystal bouquet, or nothing at all and just holding my dad's hand as i walk down the aisle, rather than linking arms :) x
