Hi there, I've seen threads where people say not to wear underwear under heavily boned dresses or those with a lace up back - mine is organza/lace and has a zip up back, and it has some boning in but it's quite soft from memory - I'm quite hour glassy so think I will need some sort of support - however I wore a usual strapless bar when I first went to try it in the shop and I remember having a shelf effect with my bust (they're G cups!) - so I'm thinking about getting a basque, but I'm unsure as to whether or not I should get it in advance of my dress coming in for fittings (end Feb) so that when I try the dress I get the complete look, or if I should wait for the dress first and then get a realistic idea of what underwear I need to get! Arghh! Am just concerned that if I wait till after the dress arrives, then the seamstress won't know what to do re alterations etc?

What do you think/did you do if you wore underwear under your dress?

Get your underwear in time for your fittings! It will make all the difference to the fitting. Hx

I had a bra made for me as I have big boobs and didn't want to be uncomfortable but then at my dress fitting the lady in the store told me not to wear a bra as it was giving me a weird shape and the dress was so boned I didn't need a bra, so I thought that was that.. but then on the day I tried the bra on and got laced in to my dress, a lot tighter than the lady in the store done it, had a fiddle about and felt extremely comfortable with the bra on and I didn't have a weird shape!

Ooh Melody where did you get yours made, was it Keynsham? I've seen a good bridal underwear place but it's online only, think I'd like to try mine on first before I buy it!

Yes, it was the underwear store in Keynsham. I picked a strapless bra which cup fit me and then had the back altered to fit and then the padding in the bra changed and then the bit that goes in your clevege made stronger to give a better shape. They were great in there!

I've got G cups too and am trying to do my wedding on a budget. I've got the dress for just £200! Can anyone recommend good larger size strapless basques that will give a better silhouette that you can buy off the shelf without having to get specially made? I've always struggled with getting a good strapless bra and I'm getting married in February!xx

I got my dress first and only really have room for a bra, i dont want a corset or anything too tight fitting as my dress is fitted enough and holds me in as it is! I need a push up strapless bra though which im having trouble finding for a reasonable price. Im a D cup but because the top of my dress is sculptured i have a little gap which i hate.

I'm a GG and have similar problems. I'm going to bravissimo to have a look at their things. I normally get my underwear from there as they specialise in smaller back sizes and bigger cups. they've got some nice stuff on the site.

I must be crazy giving myself only 6 months!

I'm also a G cup and I am planning on wearing a strapless tan bra (littlewoods do a range for huge boobs) and a retro girdle. Though I need to try it on if it's too uncomfortablebI settle for good old spanx :-)

I have the opposite problem but at the same time its similar. I have no boobs at all so the same as those with huge boobs I can never find underwear that fits. Big pain in the bottom!

Went to re-visit the dress today and found out it has plenty of boning in it, I must have been so excited with the dress I'd not noticed! So am going to get a strapless bra from a brasserie and try the dress when it comes in both with and without to see how I feel - and the lady mentioned spanx too instead of a basque so score!!

Im tempted with spanx but they arent the easiest to get on and off (particularly as the waist band will go under the corset on the dress) - just wonder given how difficult its going to be to visit the bathroom already whether spanx will be a step too far

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

I'm I/J and I wore a strapless bra under my dress, it was boned etc but there was still no way I could have gone without!

Nicsquared I do wear spanx with certain dresses on a regular basis. It's not easy but can be done :-)
But that is without a wasitband under a corset....
