Hi peeps, in a bit of bother... We will prob be bringing our wedding forward due to my dad's terminal skin cancer, in order to do this we will have to cancel our photographer and church and use the ceremony room at our reception venue. Due to the cold snowy weather, I will also need some sort of coat to wear over my strapless gown on the day, however due to lack of funds, we are unable to afford any of the coats i've seen!...... I was wondering if anyone would be willing to lend me theirs for the big day? (size 14-16) xx Thanks in advance xx Heidi xx

It shouldn't be that cold in 5 months time, well hopefully not. What colour style are you after. I haven't got one in that size, but if you've got an idea i can ask. You could also try the charity shops.

Awww hun I wish I did have one to lend you. How short notice do you need it? Ebay have some that don't break the bank as such but then I guess it depends on how much spare cash you have. If not why don't you use a shawl while you are outside and then just put a coat over the top and take it off for the photos? You don't have to be out in in for that long. Good luck to you x x

I know this may sound like a crazy idea but have you thought of asking your local radio station to do a wee plea for you for a bridal coat. It just may be a chance to get one in time for your wedding as there are many kind hearted people out there and someone may have one near you to borrow. Also it would be worth checking at local chairty shops and car boot sales just on the off chance that one turns up. And even putting a wee ad up in the local supermarket or papershop and as you cannot offer money as payment you could suggest that you would be willing to do their house cleaning for a couple of weeks as repayment.

These are only a few suggestions that may or may not help but you have nothing to lose in trying. If your wedding had been later in the year I would have tried to help make a bridal coat for you but unfortunately time is limited and its been some time since I used my sewing machine. But good luck finding one soon.

Also I am sorry to hear your sad news but am sure your Dad will be looking down on you and will be beside you in spirit as you walk down the aisle. xx

Ladies, this is down to personal choice so Mods can't really say you are or are not allowed, entirely up to you guys.

What I will say though is yes it's a very kind and generous act (and you should all be proud of yourselves being so kind x) but this may set a precident of people becoming expectant of other's generosity (not meaning that mrsgroves2b was asking for donations of money, but others may think - "what about me?").

If you wish to do this we'd like to encourage that it be done privately? Through private messaging etc.

Sorry to be The Grinch here but we do need to look at the bigger picture.
    x

So sorry to hear about your dad!

I've gone for a shrug rather than a coat hun - much cheaper option. Obviously it depends on the style of your dress but if it's got lots of layers it's going to keep you warm anyway - my biggest thing though is whether to buy gloves, I hate having cold hands!! Hope someone is able to offer one to you xx

I also second what Stacey said.

It is a generous offer, and a very kind thing to suggest but if this is what folk want to do it needs to be done away from UKB as the site cannot be held responsible if anything goes wrong.

Good luck with your hunt MrsG

    You wont need a coat.

i got married 31st October - it was freezing and i wore a furry short sleeved bolero.

Our car had plastic sides a bit like tent windows - you can probably see it on my photos..... it was chilly as hell - and i feel the cold more than anything.

If money is that tight - is the coat really essential as you will be indoors most of the time anyway?
