So myself and OH are absolutely blessed and are expecting our first baby next May. We get married at the end of November so there will be roughly 6 months to lose some baby weight.
In July before I fell pregnant I tried on Sabelle in a 14 and it was perfect. At that time I wanted to lose weight and be a 10 for the wedding. However I found out in September that i'm pregnant (all planned!) so now my goal is just to remain a 14 which is a very nice size and I will be so happy with that.
Well this weekend I saw the ex sample dress had been reduced by £1k!!!! It's now £400, so I bought it there and then in the 14.
However, I have already put on weight with the pregnancy, and just anted some advice really for afterwards - is it realistic to hope to lose weight in the 6 months after the baby's born? I just don't know how stubborn that weight will be.
I'm not going to go crazy and have an unrealistic goals, but I do want to feel good about myself on the day, even though with a new baby and a wonderful husband I'm sure I will feel fantastic anyway ;-)
Sorry, long post, and I'm not really worried, just looking for any advice / experience xxx

hi, don't worry, 6 months is loads of time and you will be fine. Key points: make a daily diary note everything you put into your mouth, EVERYTHING. that includes water, make sure you drink loads. keep under 1500 calories a day and try not to snack on anything other than fruit between meals and you will look fantastic. Its not about loosing weight quick and being grumpy, your going to need all the energy you have for looking after little one, its about eating healthy. and don't worry little one will help you lose loads of weight. another good thing is take little one for a walk everday, he/she will love it and you get out the house lol. hope that helps i lost 5 stone in 8 months doing this.

Well done on the bargain dress Hun! Enjoy being pregnant and worry about the dress fitting later. If all else fails, there's always Bridget jones knickers ;-)

You should have plenty of time in 6 months to lose any weight you need to. I did weight watchers a few years ago - and one thing we were told is that the weight that's most recent is usually the easiest to shed, so you should be fine.
I found that having the willpower was the hardest thing - but you've already got your dress so that should help. If you find it's a problem though, I'd definitely suggest joining your local ww's as their plan is really straightforward and it does work (I lost 4 stone in about 14 months).

I think 6 months is plenty I was very lucky and did not put much baby weight on at all and had lost it all within 4 weeks of giving birth
It sounds silly but I found (and many of my friends) that the weight does drop off
Walks are a great idea with the pram Also healthy eating, it will be summer so lots of salads and getting out & about
You will be fine im sure Congrats on the baby & the dress x
Well done on the bargain and congrats on the pregnancy. 6 months should be plenty, I advise breast feed all the way! Helps to get rid of baby weight. Good luck.

I agree Glitterfairy - I breastfed my son, and when I went for my checkup 6 weeks after the birth, I'd lost all my weight.

Ahhh thanks all, I feel reassured!!
Since telling everyone a few weeks ago that we're expecting the first two questions they've asked were "was it planned" and "omg what about the wedding". How rude!!! I keep saying to people they only reason we would postpone is because of money, but I've sorted that all out this weekend and know exactly where we stand with the budget. But everyones' comments have made me pretty conscious that everyone's going to be looking at my weight on the big day which upsets me! And when I told my mum about my amazing dress she was happy, but then said "now you just have to make sure you fit into it!!" arghghgh!! It's only a 14 - it's not like I'm going to try and squeeze into an 8 or anything!
So thank you for your support - I'm defintely planning to breastfeed so hopefully it will work out for me as I've heard so many benefits for mummy as well as baby when breastfeeing ;-)

Fantastic news on both scores! I think 6 months will be plenty of time to lose the weight. Br3@st feeding is incredibly good for losing weight, and I think as long as you're careful about what you eat both whilst your pregnant and afterwards, you'll be fine.
Vegas baby!

J, lots and lots of benefits. I shall not go into them all, lol. Ensure you get plenty of support when the time comes and make use of a breast feeding counsellor as well if you need them.

By the way, I had a Maggie dress in size 14, I'd imagine you would easily get away with it.

Congrats!! I nkow the feeling as im expecting 2nd baby also 6 months before wedding adn have my dress. Like glitterfairy said above breast feed as long as you can!! I lost 1st in 9 weeks of breastfeeding (managed to put it all back on by eating crap) Just be really conscious of what you are eating and eat healthily. If you stress about it too much now you will forget to enjoy being pregnant and the magical moments that come with expecting your first baby. Its something that can be dealt with closer to the wedding.
When are you due?? xxx

Don't give in too much to cravings, I'm 24 weeks and I have been successful so far in eating properly and not snacking on chocolate and crisps etc :-) see I was overweight before I got pregnant and my doctor told me I should eat healthy and not diet but not to put on too much weight. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if I've lost a little bit of weight since I found out in the summer. Mine was not planned lol but hey!
CommentAuthorVictoriaE35
You will be fine. Congrates.
I put on 6 stone on my first but did not care as I was already married and did not want to stay married. (left him after 16 months lol)
On my second I put on 4 stone and lost most of that by time I was pregnant again 6 months later, on my daughter who I had a year ago I went up to 16 stone. She is one this week and I am already down to 12 stone 10 lbs and I have not dieted at all.
Keep busy (you will with a new one anyway) plenty of nice long walks with the new baby and it will all drop off, with a nice healthy diet and even though I found breat feeding very hard if you can then that also helps with weight loss.
I am sure you will do it and look stunning in your dress. x x x

Well firstly congratulations on your pregnancy and then for grabbing an absolute bargain. Don't think any of us would have passed it up either. You've got some great advice about losing the baby weight, so I hope all goes well. Even with being back to pre-weight I still have a way to go with the wobbles but that's nothing big old knickers can't handle. All the very best for the pregnancy xx

congratulations I had the same but had 9 months to loose the weight this was my third I had an excellent midwife who helped me not to over eat while I was pregnant so I didn't put on too much excess weight on as I usually balloon when I'm pregnant stick to healthy meals fish salads etc, I only put on a stone and a half usually its 2 -3 stone when I gave birth I lost a stone in the first month breast feeding helped (though i didnt get on with it so bought a pump) and I kept eating sensibly I lost two stone all together so you can do it, don't over exercise in the first two months as your body is still adjusting. Glad you found your dress and what an amazing price good luck x

Congratulations! If you breastfeed you can't go on a low calorie diet because you wouldn't have enough going through to the milk but you can be sure to limit your calories to what you need (2500) and exercise once you're feeling up to it. It depends a lot on the style of dress as well. Lace up would be ideal because you don't know how ginormous your boobs are going to get! (Mine went from D/DD to F so would be a problem for a fitted bust).
I was dress size 12 before I was pregnant and when I got my dress at 9 weeks pp I was about 1.5 stone heavier and dress size 14. I got a lace back dress because it meant I could go down a size before the wedding and it would still fit. I haven't actually lost any weight since then (nearly 5 months pp), but my daughter wasn't putting on weight well so I had to go on a high fat diet to help her, which I'm thinking about cutting down now as she's doing well, so we'll see if I can shift some!
Are you going to find out the sex? My daughter's bridesmaid dress was the very first thing I bought and I based the theme around it! Formal suits for babies look sooooooo cute too, so exciting!!!

Ahhh thanks to all of you - there's some really wonderful advice here and I feel so much better :-)
Eleanor - we will be finding out the sex on dec 27th and I can't wait to buy a little suit / dress for babba!! xxx

congratulations! :) All Id say really is dont eat for 2 while you are pregnant, its a complete myth, just eat well and continue to eat well once baby is born. If you do any exercise already, keep it up, you can still do light excersise and it will be easier to get back into it afterward if youve not been sat eating cake and chips the whole time. I dont mean that to sound as rude as it comes across, just most people I know when they get pregnant they just eat an amazing amount of crap becasuse its an excuse for guilt free gorging!!! My cousin made the mistake of eating for the 5000, it was just any excuse to stuff her face, and she went from a size 6 to a size 16/18.
I didnt really gain much of any baby weight at all, it was just my bump and abit of a jelly belly for a couple of weeks while everything sprung back to where it was supposed to be

My sickness was so bad I could only eat cravings without throwing up until 30+ weeks, which was mostly junk food. I wish I could have eaten healthily!
Sorry to hear about your bf issues Velcro :( It is a lot harder than you can realise before you try and I had a multitude of problems (still do) but I would advocate getting as much help and support as you can from midwives, lactation consultants, forums and good old Dr Google. Feel free to message me if you need help, I've experienced most issues you can, lol. I know this is completely OT, just throwing it out there!
CommentAuthorVelcro
ah its alright now, shes 7 haha! it was more of an issue of my poor nipples couldnt handle it they were constantly on fire and bleeding and scabby the whole time and it never eased off even though I was told it would get easier with time, so i just assumed it wasnt for me. it just has never felt nice when they have been touched, its always been an unpleasant sore sensation, much to the boys disgruntlement, have to remind him to play nice in that area haha! (geting abit TMI now, so Il hush lol)

Velcro, you were not given the correct support. You get these problems when baby is not attached correctly or positioned right.

Ooh I'm thinking of breastfeeding.
Velcro you aren't alone when you say that you keep telling partners to go easy on them. I told an ex to go easier as I felt like he was about to rip them off then five minutes later he was doing the same thing again so I grabbed his nipples and started playing with them the same way and he was like "Oww wtf?" And I was like "Yeah exactly". I think they just copy what they see in porn movies and think all women love it lol.
CommentAuthorJules81
My OH seems to think he can launch himself on mine whenever I take my bra off rightnow because they've grown so much!! Don't think the poor man has ever felt so rejected!!! Hahaha
I really really want to bf and so many people have told me not to give up and if it hurts then I need more support and the baby hasn't latched on properly. So we'll see!!! As much as anything I just don't want to fork out for formula!!! Xxx
CommentAuthorVelcro
formula is bloody expensive, and you dont have to wind them when they breast feed either, or so Im told. i just got such a complex about it, il never be able to do it again

CommentAuthorVictoriaE35
Still need to wind but cheaper. I was just rubbish at it and decided that a happy full baby was better than a stressed out mum with a hungry baby.
I boobs were so big the poor babies could not get the whole nipple area in their monuth so hurt me alot but I am sure for us we did the right thing and gave up.
CommentAuthorGlitterfairy
This has gone off topic a little, but reason why babies feel full up is that a baby that is 1 day old has a stomach which holds 5mls of milk, yet if formula fed are given 30mls so guess what this is doing to the stomach. Also it is harder for them to digest, it takes 20 mins to an hour for breast milk to be digested, hence why they need feeding more regular, and for formula it can take 2-4 hours.
Getting back on topic, 6 months is a good time to get rid of the weight if you need to, so don't stress about it. You will probably do it without even realizing as you will be so busy.
