I'd say book asap as popular venues and dates go quickly. We booked our venue just under 2 years before our date. xxx

Never too early and more so that you have a specific date in mind. We looked at a few places and the deposit will depend on the venue. The first venue wanted £2000 deposit but the venue we booked asked fro £850 as a deposit. Hope this helps and good luck with the venue hunting :) xxx

its never ever too early and most venues go anywhere from 2-5 years in advance [more if theyre V exclusive] so you might find that even if your date is years away you cant get the date you want. If your date itself is important [as in, has to be the 17th or somthing] then id do it ASAP.
When booking a venue early, make sure you take out wedding insurance, because places go bust, change managers/owners and you get messsed around. Wedding insurance means you might loose your venue, but not your £2000-£8000[ish] deposit xD
Good wedding insurers can be found through UKB

Our wedding is 1st December 2012 and its been booked since last July. The scary part was the 8th and 15th were already booked so its lucky we wanted the 1st anyway. Book as soon as possible - However BEFORE you put down any deposit, draw up a list of your requirements/questionseven menu if you have a particular request or theme (there are several threads you can search on here that have loads of questions to ask your venue). Only book once they have met all your requirements and you are 100% happy with the venue and just as importantly the people you are dealing with at that venue. We changed our venue as we later realised there were too many little things we werent happy with, and we nearly lost £300. Wedding Insurance is also essential. xx

Never too early I would say! We're already looking at venues (narrowed it down to two today!!) and we're not getting married for 2 and half years! Most places I spoke to are almost booked up for 2012! And one place I saw today say they have annual functions that you have to work around, so need book early to get the date/time of year we want. I'd definitely get looking!!

Book now and you can get 2011 prices. Once you have a venue and date, you can book a photographer (and again get this year's price), book your entertainment/band/DJ, videographer, maybe even florist, chair covers etc. and you'll probably get your first choices as it's early and at a price you'll be happy with.

Im only just now looking at venues and we are hoping to get married on the 26th May 2012. Seriously considering changing to the friday as a few places are booked up already. Really wanted the 26th but as all the girls have said places get booked up so early. I wish I knew what I know now 6 months ago when we got engaged as now I'm in panic mode thinking the venues we like will be booked up. So as everyone else has said asap is definately the best idea if you have a specific date in mind xx
