Hi, I tried to do a search on this but couldn't find anything this specific, so I'm sorry if there was something and I couldn't see it.

Basically our wedding venue is provisionally booked for September 2015. It is in a different borough to where we live. I understand we have to give notice to our borough registry office. And book our registrar from the venue's local registry office. To be able to secure our venue and pay the deposit we need to wait until 2 years before the date, which would make it 19th September (next month). But as I understand it, we can't give notice until a year before, so next year September (2014)
The question I was getting at is this: Can you book a registrar before you give notice?

Any help will be appreciated from others who may have been in the same situation. (I'm sure there must be lots)

We booked our registrar before giving notice
We too have a registrar from one county and had to give notice in a another county where we live.

The registrars were lovely, I did not think they were going to do it but they penciled us in once the venue was booked, asked what time we would like etc.
They then contacted me around October to remind me to give notice
That was done, registrars emailed confirmation that they had had the notice and all has been smooth sailing.

I was very nervous about it but it was fine and all area's were very helpful

    Good luck xx

Most will allow you to do so - ours did...we paid a fifty point deposit, and then had to give notice as soon as possible in the year before.

There are a few districts that won't let you book, I believe, it does vary xx

We have done this (getting married July 2015). We are getting married in a different district, we simply paid a provisional booking fee which holds our date and time. We were told to give notice at our district between July and September 2015 (so a three month window) so our date isnt released and we can provide the documentation to our registrar. Basically, try and give notice exactly a year before and you should be ok :-) Alot of councils have changed their rules whereby you can book your registrar well in advance of giving notice - you would need to check with your registrar though.

Wow thanks girls, that's a relief anyway, I will start looking at booking the registrar soon then. Was in two minds whether to ask a lady I know who is trained as a registrar but it isn't her actual job. Didn't know how easy it would be to arrange that either, but thought it would be nice to have someone I know (HB doesn't know her) marry us. Hmm

Both of your big days are really close! How exciting :-D

I've never heard anything about giving notice in a three month window tho...our registrar just told us to go in anytime from the 1yr mark (13sept 13) til 16 days before the wedding, and just ring and make an appointment in that time x

Sorry should of made it clearer, our registrar advised making the giving of notice appointment in the 3 month window as after this time they.are not obliged to hold our date and time, but thats just a rule of that area. As long as we give them the date and time we booked for giving notice in that time (but can actually have the meeting any time up to 2 weeks before) its ok. Sorry if.confused some ladies :-) We also have to pay £75 fee when booking notice of marriage.

We did this too - didn't have to pay anything to secure the date but had to give notice within a certain period from the year point or they released the date time to someone else
