does anyone know if you can have a blessing outside of a church ?

thinking about getting married overseas but want to have a blessing here to involve family etc .....hsb says you can have a blessing anywhere i dont think so ...help

What about having a handfasting? They can b done anywhere! U just need to give the person doing it the grid reference.

The traditional Highland Handfast is held by running water. A couple would swap pieces of cloth, that had some significance to their families, as a symbol of their commitment to each other.

Their friends and family then bind their hand together with ribbons which symbolise their emotional bonds - this is the origin of the term 'tying the knot'.

A year later the couple return to the same spot to seal their commitment and so be considered married in the sense that we understand it.


Its not a legal ceremony.

Yeah, i thot so too. Was wondering whehter we would do it as part of our ceremony, but we've decided we want to get to the alcohol quickly! Hehe! We goin, saying i do, signing register adn gettin out!

i really want to get married in a country house so the matter wont arise, but h2b wants something diff, originally said about a cruise liner but looking at the cost it would be about $4500 for us and i dont think anyone could afford to come with us ....we are now considering the beach wedding .........trying to show him it would actually be cheaper to do it all here ....

i have a friend that is ordaned, but isnt registered to give official weddings so he is going to do a blessing for us at the reception in the same style as the actual ceremony. he got it from doing an internet course...so have a search around or ask a friend or family member if they would do something like that.

oh a hand fastening sounds lovely, as i have been married before we had a bit of a game getting our church to marry us (had to attend church reguarly etc and go to couple meetings) but eventually she agreed when she first met us she gave us our options of getting married in a registry office and then having a blessing in church after but it would have cost the same as getting married in church £600.00 just so glad she said yes x
