We originally wanted those disposable cameras on the tables but after reading a few threads on here, I've changed my mind due to cost of getting them printed and bad quality photos.
We went to a wedding in the summer where the bride and groom had a laptop set up on a table for people to put their memory cards in and transfer the wedding photos they'd taken. Great idea but I really don't want to leave my laptop lying around on the wedding day! I'd be worried about it getting broken or people spilling drinks on it.
So we came up with the idea of buying some blank CDs and asking guests to put their photos from the day on those and send them back to us. But I'm not sure if this would work, so what do you ladies think? Would they look silly? Would people actually bother to do it? Xxx

You could do but most people have blank cd's at home?! My friend who got married 2 weeks ago, wrote in the back of the order of service, please upload your photos onto a photo sharing website and put the address and that worked. xxx

It can work, but its whether people will remember to do it. Maybe put the CD's on the tables with a printed label offering the choice of sending you the cd back or uploading them to a webpage of your choice?

We are thinking about buying a load of 1gb memory cards so people can put them in their cameras and give them back before they leave and then we will upload all the pictures to a website where people can get them. x

I'm worried that asking people to send the cd back to us is a bit of an effort and people just won't bother. If you were asked to do this, would you bother? Xxx

If you were a good friend or family I think I would make the effort to do it but if you were just a friend or a friend of my h2B I don't think I would x

Honestly, probably not, unless I had some really good pics.
It would be one of those things id mean to do, but never get round to if you know what I mean. I'd upload and email them though, which I guess would be most convenient for people. Xx

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. People will mean to but not actually do it.
I'm not sure about a photo sharing website as I don't want all my wedding photos to be so public and some of them reduce photo quality.
Email's a good idea. Would people be more likely to do this? Xxx

Ooh I like that idea. Thanks tori :)
I don't know if it would make people more likely to bother though, or if they still wouldn't? Xxx

We just asked people to email us with either a link to their preferred site or a couple of people just sent us cd's with theirs on. Personally, I wouldn't waste the money as I know with our guests a lot of them wouldn't have returned the disc. Also, if you have people like my mum who has a digital camera, but no computer...it would be a waste x
I'm not sure about the bucket of photo, but the sharing site starting with flick lets you share with only people you want to, so I'm guessing there's a level of password protection on there...
As for the email idea, unless you want to drastically reduce the quality, I would try to avoid this, unless people know how to 'zip' files as you'd only be able to send a couple of photos at a time...

I just know that if we don't sort anything for them, then they won't think to do it. Family will be fine as we can just borrow their cameras and upload the photos to our computer. It's friends that will really be the problem and most of our friends don't live in our town so it won't be easy to chase them all up for photos. Xxx

we are going to have this problem as i dont like the idea of putting a camera on the table as people take stupid pics during eveninG and it for then when photographer has gone that we would need extra pics and most of my older family dont have a computer so that rules that out!! will just ask people to send us pics on a disk or email etc if they can x otherwise will just have to make do!

I wouldn't ever get round to putting them on CD and sending to you, tbh. Can't you set up a wedding website/social network page and ask people to upload them?

To be honest, by the time the evening do rolls around, most people are having too much fun to bother about photos, so it's much more likely that the only decent ones will be from your family,or at least that's how it seems at every evening reception I've been to.

Maybe you could just say to your friends that you'd like to see any photos they take?

    Xx

Most people will probably upload them onto an album on facebook, so friends wise you will probably get to see them anyway, and you said you can borrow the cameras of family members to get their photos so I wouldn't bother hun, it is probably just a waste of money xxx
