Ok I have visited a few venues in our price range, and there is one we love and felt real good about but today when H2B called them to ask them to send us their full T&C Matt, the co-ordinator was confused and basically said they don't have any I have emailed about it yesterday already, so Matt just told him that we pay the deposit and if we don't turn up we lose it, which makes sense but it makes me wonder if we're going to sign a contract. If they don't give us a contract and we take out wedding insurance, in case anything happens are we covered?

Hiya,
I will be totally honest....my venue i have no signed t&c's. Likewise-he has nothing on us. We have emailed to plan everything but nothing in formal writing. I am not worried though coz he is a nice guy and I know its not in his best interest to drop us in it!
Our venue is a restaurant, they are fairly new to the wedding scene so are doing everythin they can to impress.
We actually dont even need to pay until after the wedding. I have said i will be paying him before. Mainly for my peace of mind, but he isnt bothered.
Its point i am trying to make...is...if you ok with the laid back attitue and you trust / know they have a good rep. Then do it. If they seem dodgy to you....dont do it. Go with your gutt.
Good luck. xx

I had a good feeling the venue is small, its a local restaurant hotel countryside type fairly cheap with a nice venue, and the guy we spoke to was quite laid back, and they seem to do things in that attitude not fussed about choosing menu now and very relaxed atmosphere, we visited when there was a private party and everybody seemed at ease and happy. It does not have many reviews in trip advisor but they're all really good, one was for wedding a bit more than a year ago. It is a family run hotel, maybe that's why they don't fuss about T&C

you should always get a contract! even if you write it yourself! sorry but if someone gets food poisoning and sues you need a contract stating its down to the caterers to make sure its properly cooked and prepared. otherwise its you that is out of pocket not them. always have a contract!
Find out who you are & do it on purpose!

Have you asked about signing a contract when you pay your deposit? The contract works both ways - both of you will be covering your backs. They might say that it's your loss if you don't turn up, but surely they lose out if you don't turn up too? It makes sense for both parties to have a contract! Just ask to see a copy of a contract because you just want to check everything's in order. If not, do as Katya suggests and draw up your own contract.
That never even crossed my mind. Can you imagine a wedding guest taking you to court for food poisoning! That would be terrible.

We dont have a contract or anything so I have written a function sheet a) for them to follow (yes i know that sounds really really up my own bottom but as an ex wed co it scares me they dont do one) also so they honor the prices they gave us

I will go see them on Saturday or Sunday if we decide to go for them and before giving money I will request a contract to be made. Katya you said I can write myself, could you help me with a draft?
