I wasnt sure if there was a thread for plus size brides to be, so i thought i would start one :)
I have just come back from Berketex to look at my dream dress (which was far too expensive origannally so was just dreaming) And i have actually bought it woohoo! Sale was on and the lady said if i was to pay a percentage today i could have £200 off.
I was extremely worried about trying dresses on as im a size 18-20 but the shop assistant was really nice, the only bad thing was the fact that i almost got stuck in the first dress as it was a 12! (well obviously that was a no-go!) to stop me from feeling disheartened she tried a similar dress on me pulled all the dress in it fitted lovely and i felt gorgeous :)
My dream dress (the size 12 one) was sat on the chair and nothing could have come close, so with a little persuasion from my bestest mate ive ordered it :) In shock at the mo.
Also, i forgot to say i had to be measured and my hips and bust made me go upto size 22, which i kinda expected but then my waist makes the dress to be a size 26! Couldnt beleive it, but like my freind said once the dress is on and fitted to my size i will be gorgeous and the size wont matter.
I was really pleased with the help i got from the staff in Berketex, they didnt make me feel worried or self-concious at all, and they said they have all shapes and sizes come in to try dresses on.
I going to stop waffling on now! Im soooo excited n smily :)

hi, im new to this, and im a very big plus size bride to be, im currently a size 26/28 so in bridal wear i have to go in a size 30/32 NOT HAPPY about that bit but never mind, i think i have found my dress it fitted like a glove and felt lovely on, my hubby to be will die when he see me in it, he doesn't care what size i am we have been together for 11 and a bit years now.
glad you had good customer service as when you sometimes go in to some of these bridal shops they look at you like you shouldn't be getting married because your not a size 8 or is that just me, sorry im going on, im so happy you find you dream dress and good luck, emma xx

Ladies it doesnt matter what it says in the label its about how you feel in your dress thats important! If you are worried about going dress shopping ring the shops first and ask what plus size stock they have in. I'm sure you will all look gorgeous whatever size you are.

Im a 20/22 and not got my dress yet, i have been in one shop but being im only getting married in 2 yrs decided to wait before dress shopping (plus i plan on buying from china, although need to find a style that suits first).

So what style dresses have you all gone for, i like sweetheart neckline, i also love princess style dresses, but very much doubt i will get that style coz it probs wont suit me!

I am a plus size bride, my wedding dress is a size 22 , i went to 4 different shops and was able to try on loads..yeah some didnt do up at the back but i knew when i saw the one......the sizes are strange anyway and i know im really a size 18 to 20. I thought i wanted a dress with straps, plain on the bust, zip back and detail on the train with no lace, surprise surprise ive got a strapless gown, sparkly bodice, lace detail and very full skirt....cannot wait to wear it,Its an Ellis bridal 11032 'the princess and the frog' All girls whatever shape and size are princesses on their wedding day anyway...the main thing is that your hubbies love you x x x

amie i think it depends on what sizes the sample dresses in the shop are, if you see a dress you like but the sample is in a size 12 then you may have to try that one on but most shops have a variety of sizes accross the sample gowns. i had the opposite problem as i am quite small no shops had sample dresses in my size everything i tried on was either clipped with bull dog clips or had sponges stuffed down the back, it was soo annoying but even if the dress is too big or small you still get an idea of what it looks like xx

My friend owns a bridal shop which is where Igot mine from and she said that wedding dresses are true sixes (not like primark or peacocks lol) and a lot of dresses are made abroad so you need to go up sometimes one or two sizes then you really are to get a good fit x

I'm also 18-20 and when I went to try on dresses there were a few that I couldn't get on but I could get in the size 16 sample just not do them up at the back. It was enough to give me an idea of what they would look like though. I think its about time women stopped looking at dress sizes and just enjoyed what they look like in the dress/clothes. I've been to a few shops and put a size 10 next to a size 18 and they have been the same size. I was so shocked that it didn't fit at the time I needed to find out why. I think sometimes they put the wrong labels in the clothes or they cut them shorter than what they should be so never be disheartened when something doesn't fit.

If you go into a bridal shop and they are nasty because of your size. (I've had this happen) then walk out. They lost out on a sale so its their tough luck. You will find lots of other shops out there that treat you like the princess that you are.

im not a plus size bride but because of my hips (thanks mother) i've had to order a size 22 dress but once its pulled it you would never guess it was a size 22! (if i choose to wear that dress haha - i have two im so indecisive lol)

Also wedding dress sizing is completely different to normal dress sizes, everywhere I went warned me that I would have to order at least 2 dress sizes above what I usually am due to the way they are made - they could just have been warnign me though due to my massive hips and tiny'ish waist - i look so odd haha, all the women have HIPS thanks to my mother passing on the gene, one of my bridesmaids (my neice) has the same problem with her dress so had to go up a size and hav it taken in around the bust and waist, all because of our hips!

I've found that if you have a certain dress in mind you want to try on then it does come in handy to do some research before hand and asking around which shops do that sample in a larger size. You can always order if from a local shop later on but it is nice to try on the ones you want in a size nearer to what you are.

i have just ordered my dress in a size 26 and in some stores they did have me trying to get into a size 12 i went to alot of bridal shops and i did get into the habit of calling ahead to make sure the had larger sizes in for me to try on and also my bridesmaids one of my girls is a size 20 i had her booked into a shop to try on some styles and only as a after thought called to check they would have her size only to be told they only stocked size 8. i cancled that appointment because i didnt want her to feel bad like i did when the tryed to get me in the size 12's. i also think the sales assistance have a big part to play i went into a store and was ignored they only spoke to my friend with me who was a size 10 yet in one of the first stores they had small sizes but the sales girls were lovely and i didnt mind at all

Its hard to say as it depends on where you lose the weight from and what shape the dress is. Hope you manage to get to your targer. Have you started to shed some pounds yet or started a diet? I would say get it off now rather then think next week as many brides have found out on here next week soon comes around and your left with a dress you can't get in.

Fair enough. I'm the same. I've just lost a stone and have plenty more to go. Don't chuck the chocolate away. You can still have it. Just balance it out so if you want a chocolate day you make sure everything else you have is really healthy. I find if I really want a chocolate fix that there are some not so damaging options you can have such as....WW chocolate brownie desserts (found in the frozen section) Options hot chocolates, Milky ways, Chocolate mousse pots, Asda's BGTY choc orange bars found in the biscuit section. I'm sure there are others that I have but can't think off hand. Hope that helps. Also I replace crisps with snack a jacks or low fat cracker crisps.
