I'm, like most brides, wanting to lose some weight before the big day! I'm aiming to lose around a stone, which I have put on since going on the pill (damn those pills!). I eat well and do ballet and power walking every week, any advice on how to shift the pounds and keep them off without starving myself or doing daft diets that don't involve any food other than baby puree? :P I have 2 years to do it, but figure there's no time like the present!

just eat in modaration u can still eat what u want... dont say u cant have something it just makes u want it more. treat yourself alittle its not the end of the world if u have a choco bar or something you just need to limit how many u have lol. (if i want a choco bar i have the small snack size ones in and i have one of them).

remember fruit and veg it makes u more full at meals so u no want to eat snacks all the time and late at night or its great for snacking on ... i eat loads of fruit esps now its summer.
drink water with a meal it fills ur stomach up to and makes u feel full faster so u dont over eat. sometime it can make u feel hungry not long after so snack on fruit or a yougurt...(natural yougurt is very good for u)

dont always trust products when it says low fat ... they maybe low in fat but 9 out of 10 they replace it with sugar.
make small changes if u change to much to start with most likely u will fine it boring fast and go back to what they call old habits.
think about the way u cook things to for example sauages or bacon... if u fry try changing to grilling and u can see the fat running out of it :( where as if u fry u putting more fat in to it (i cook eveything on my grill now) if i want things like chips i oven them. and try making things fresh. by making ur own u know whats goin in it

hope that helps hun ..... i did this and i lost 5 stone in about 2 years. .

Thanks :) I love fruit and veg anyway, aside from mushrooms, so I do try to eat loads! I also have a smoothie maker which I'm going to dig out and make more use of, making smoothies for taking to work and making frozen smoothie with to replace ice cream snacks. I will defo be trying to make as much as I can from scratch, I am trying to get my whole family involved so at least I'll have support from them :)

Thanks for the advice Emma :)

Hi, I've been doing Weight Watchers since March and I've lost 18lbs, though hoping to lose about another stone & half. I'm really impressed with it cos I' can work it in with family life (we have 4 kids) h2b has lost over a stone too. I do agree with what Emma says though, fruit and veg and careful when it says low fat. I've just started going to Zumba with my daughter, it's great fun, could do with doing some more exercise though! Good luck x

Fruity pops is very much right in what she says. i cook everything from scratch and know little tips to cut down on fat as much as possible.

for example - when softening onions when making a spag bol curry etc i put my chopped onion in water and either steam it, or micro if short on time, so there is no fat there. drain any juice from meats like mince and if possible try using turkey mince as this as very little fat in it at all and is recommend for people with high cholestrol. i also get through 2lb fresh tomatoes a week either on sandwiches or for cooking. i even use them in a gravy recipe i follow.

if you love your roasties like i do, try using charlotte/new potatoes with skin on as when the skin stays on less oil is absorbed but you still get your roasties.

with regards to special K breakfast try having weetabix instead as special k as more fat & sugar and less fibre than weetabix.

i also make alot of smoothies especially when the fruit is on the 'turn' that way you get to use it up and get some of your 5 a day. try apple and grape with fresh orange juice. seeds and nuts are also very good for snacking on, granted it doesnt taste as good as chocolate but you could always pretend its a snicker! and brown rice and pasta have a lower GI than white.

how many are living in your house? i find that when i buy something like 500g mince that is too much for 3 of us, so i split it and freeze other half. at least then i have some in freezer and portion sizes are not man sized.

hope all this helps but i wouldnt stress over it as your h2b loves you as you are otherwise he wouldnt have proposed

    Good luck!!!

I will be switching to weetabix, I love my special K but having just read the box properly I might give it up. Love weetabix anyway, esp with hot milk on a cold morning :D I've never really tried nuts, time to venture I think. My H2B hates them but no allergies so he can just avoid them. There are 3 in my house (still living with parents until I finish my degree next year) so convincing them to change to brown rice and pasta might be tricky but I shall certainly give it a go :)

Thanks for the advice ladies :) x

Try doing something new exercise wise, your body will have hit a Plateau, as once in a routine your muscles will remember things. try zumba or spinning or anything that is different from what you are used to. Also, try cutting back on bread, carbs and also portion sizes, should be more veg/salad on plate. Also try to remember everything in moderation.

    Hope this helps.

I've always found it really difficult to lose weight, calorie counting doesn't work for me, never has, in fact until recently the only thing that has worked was the Atkins Diet and I wouldn't recommend that to anyone. I've been doing Weight Watchers online for a few months now and have lost a stone - not a great deal for the amount of time I'll grant you - but its dead easy, I haven't had to change what I eat besides lunches at work and cutting out snacking, but it just really makes you think about what you're actually eating. I've lost 5 inches off my waist, and 5 inches off my hips, and some off my chest too! So even though the pounds may not be falling off, the cm certainly are! I'd definitely recommend it :o)

oh and just read what you said about loving fruit and veg - they're all zero points on weight watchers so you can have as much as you like :o)

I decided last night that from today I'm really going to make an effort to eat more healthily to get back to losing weight (I lost 2 stone just over a year ago, but have put about 6 pounds back on recently). I'd like to lose at least 1 more stone before my wedding, maybe even two. Thanks for the tips girls, this has been really motivating! One thing that I did last time was made sure I went for a walk every day if I wasn't going to the gym or some other exercise, even if it was only 20 mins or so after work. Hopefully I'll get back to that this week!

I find it really hard to lose weight and keep it off too. I'm almost a stone heavier than a year ago and I'm struggling to shift it. I have to exercise almost obsessively to make any difference which isn't always practical.

I try not to stress about it, eat what I want in moderation and have the odd treat as well. I'm hoping that eventually I'll get the excess pounds off but I won't kill myself if I don't

Can't wait until the day I become Mrs. Johnson :)

i have tried other diets but this is so easy! dont feel like you are on a diet as you can eat what ever you want! xx
