We have our church and time slot booked now, only thing is, is there a set price roughly for having the bells rung in church? Does it vary depending on parish/church? I am taking our forms back this weekend but roughly wanted to know a guide price for this as we really want the bells but not sure what the cost is - will definitely check with our church on Saturday :)

Bells will cost anything from £5-£20 per rope (which is per ringer). It will depend on the ringers and their set fee because you pay per person. The minimum you really need is 6 because any less and it doesn't work. Anything more is up to you and also how many bells you have xx

Why how many bells can we have? Ideally id rather pay a set fee so will ask about my options on Saturday....and only want to pay to one account really can't be doing with messing around :) with churches.....we're not having the choir or organ (horrible out of tune noises no thanks lol), do they usually allow you to provide your own music/cds/docking station etc? xxx

You can't pay a set 'fee' because each person is paid separately but you can pay the full amount in one. Normally the ringers are paid on the day or the amount is left with the church to then give to them. How many bells because you ring certain methods/patterns and if you have less than 6, you can't do that and it is very monotonous and pointless really. You need enough bells to make it worthwhile! xx

Our vicar told us that it's an extra £80 for the bells although we arent going to bother.
I really dislike the organ too, the vicar we booked our wedding with was very laid back about letting us have cd music in the church etc but he has since left and a new one has taken over now (and not as laid back unfortunately) so I dont know if they will let us anymore.

Could hear them at the wedding I photographed recently. When I was speaking to someone else about music he mentioned it as well (although to be fair he was talking about playing outside as well while we had photo's, which may have been more what he meant).
Anyway-my main point is that money is going towards the musician.

It annoys me how much they differ in different area's. I think we'd pay if it was £60, but considering our Church isn't one of the cheapest anyway (looking at around £600... haven't been given the final cost yet) £140 on top of that is a lot.

Yes, but if you take into the consideration that they have to practice, take about 3-4 hours out of their day, potentially take time off work then approximately £20 per person is peanuts. If it was £60 in total, that's barely £10 per ringer which is ridiculous as it's not even minimum wage for an hour let alone for the many hours on the day and on practice night!

I wasn't questioning the paying of the bell ringers-more the fact that it differs so much from Church to Church... and not actually the costs of the bells in particular-but the costs of the Church. When I have £740 written as my estimate for my Church and that only included the bells and no other extra's and I see people on here talking about paying £400-£500 for their Church including extra's it makes me a little sick to be honest.
We don't exactly live in an affluent area either, I'd understand more if that was the case.

I used be a bell ringer and we used to get paid £6 per rope but wedding parties were charged a little bit more than this and the extra went into a fund for upkeep and maintenance of the bells and church tower. However, I don't think it was that much- just the equivalent of a few pounds extra per bell ringer. The cost does vary from church to church though as I rang at weddings in other parishes and sometimes was paid up to £10 more!

I agree Donna their should be 1 set price for all, I find it really frustrating when you see people saying they've paid £4-500 for their church & that price includes everything!!
Our church is £771 but we don't know until the 28th of this month what is actually included in that figure. These are the other options we have been given: With optional flowers on Pew Ends £811 Including Video recording Licence £911 With no flowers £671
So going by that the £771 includes flowers but what flowers I'm not sure, as it then goes onto say it's an additional £40 for pew end flowers?? I'm tempted to go with the no flowers options as we know there's a wedding before us at 2pm & another before them, surely they wont have time to remove their flowers!!!
