hi, thought i would say hi, i got engaged in april and im living in hatfield. we orginally set a provisional date for may 2014 but due to a very complicated story we (I) are hoping to move the date forward to autumn 2013. im not supposed to be planning anything until october this year because we dont have the money until then, plus i know very little about actually planning a wedding and im waiting until the wedding show at the nec to get an idea of what im getting myself into. would be nice to hear from those of you who are already planning, especially if anyone near me knows of good places to check out.

Hey, I've just got engaged, I'm from Luton and I'm having a massive problem with finding a venue that I like, and we can afford. We're looking for somewhere with rooms so the elderly members of the family can go to bed and we can continue partying... plus my h2b is well known for going to bed early and if thinks I'm missing this party he has another thing coming.... Can someone help me please?!

Hi Mrs To Be,
Have you looked at some of the hotels I know a lot of places have bedrooms that you can book for the wedding. We looked at Offley Place but that would cost us too much.
We're gettin married a whipsnade and we are booking the holiday inn for people to stay in as that is less then 2 minutes away.
Laurenc907 where abouts are you from?

Hi MrsK2b, I looked at Offley Place but it might be out of my price range too. I'm now thinking of maybe a hotel but I really don't know where to start.
Whipsnade sounds lovely I'd just be worried that my younger guests would want to be with the animals all day and not with us. lol.

How many people are you having? I can have a look around for you if you wanted?
We're having a train after dinner that everyone can go on after dinner.
I've got a really lovely florist if anyone needs one? If you do I can put her details on your wall?
Hope you all have a great week xxx

How about the old palace lodge in Dunstable for the hotel and they have a licence as well. Opposite priory gardens for the photos too xx
CommentAuthorMrs To Be
Hi Zowie, I've seen it on my through Dunstable but had no idea they had a wedding licence. My h2b is from Berkhampsted so I think I've agreed to try looking Hemel way rather than Dunstable, but I only know of expensive places and I'm trying to keep my costs down.
MrsK2B - A train, wow my 2 year old would think all his Christmas's had come at once, he'd love it.... I've decided not to have fresh flowers, I'm looking for someone who does wooden flowers, or high quality fake flowers, but not silk.

Raycheroo I got. I got my dress from there too. Sarah was always so nice and I went and tried my dress on whenever I wanted! X

mrs to be, i might be able to help, did you have a budget in mind????
CommentAuthorsussie
actually i have loads of things on herts/beds weddings, so message me if u want any help
CommentAuthorMrs To Be
Thanks sussie, I'd love some help, it's driving me mad already...! I don't really have a budget at the moment, I don't want to spend a fortune on the venue but I'm looking for somewhere a bit unique. I have a couple of things that I do want, a 4o'clock wedding, an alternative to a sit down meal, and I'd love to be able to stay the night before so no need for cars. ( you can't a wedding dress in a sports car lol ). I'm looking for some inspiration.
CommentAuthorsussie
how many people are you looking at?? roughly
CommentAuthorMrs To Be
We're working on approx 100 to 150 people, that's why I don't want a sit down meal. I want to be able to invite everyone and not have to worry about who we invite to the day and who only gets an evening invite.
CommentAuthorsussie
I will have a look for you this evening, and let you know :o)

I'm in Beds, around Shefford. I'm finding it hard to find a venue tbh. Though i'm not sure if we're going to have our wedding locally because the partner is from Bradford originally!

Hi HobbitBeth, welcome to my world!! I can't find a venue either. I've given up looking and I'm going to do my guest list first so I can get some idea of numbers and then I'll have another look.
What sort of place are you looking for?
CommentAuthorGazza 122
What about the Swiss Gardens? for the civil ceremony, and maybe the Whire Horse in Southill for the reception? x
CommentAuthorGazza 122
*white Horse (sorry) x
CommentAuthorHobbitBeth
I visit The White Horse in Southill so often for pub lunches and events that i'd just love somewhere different. Plus, my cousin got married in Swiss Gardens not so long ago. I think the best place i found was The Barns Hotel in Bedford or Woburn Abbey.
Though with my OH being from Yorkshire, i'm not sure if we're trying half way, so Nottinghamshire area. Who knows! Just need to keep searching.
Mrs To Be - I'm looking for just a nice place that does everything in one, so i can have the reception, ceremony and have places to stay after, so a nice hotel really

Im getting married at the Barns :) Its Beautiful xx
CommentAuthorMrs To Be
Hobbitbeth, that's exactly what I'm looking for but can't find somewhere with enough rooms. There are a lot of us that would want to stay and I also want to stay the night before so I can chill in the morning and not have to stress.
I've never heard of The Barns Hotel, I'll have to check that one out.
CommentAuthorHobbitBeth
Kev's Angel - it does look really nice! You'll have to let us know what the day is like and if you advise us to pick it ;)

Hey all, well since my last post me and h2b decided to just push the date to next feb, a huge change to our original plan of may 2014. The reason being everywhere we looked added 5% to their current fees per year, by moving the day to next feb we can (hopefully) have the big day with a budget of 5-6k. my heart was set of tewin bury farm in welwyn but it was just too much for our fincances (sob) so instead we went for the ramada hotel in hatfield (in our current home town), they are currently doing fantastic deals for anyone who is interested. We also went against our original plans of having the ceremony at the venue and have decided on a registry office (fingers crossed, because its a week day, not many other weddings will take place on that day as that's my pet hate of registry office weddings) now our plan is to sweet talk some of my wealthier family members of the family who own fancy cars if they will let us use their car.
Anyone else having real troubles keeping guest lists down to a minimum?
CommentAuthorMrs To Be
Hi Lauren, I can't find a venue big enough that I can afford and I like. I'm already at 100 guests and that's just mainly immediate family (those we see on a monthly basis) and close friends. So registry office is out of the window, it only holds 40.... we need somewhere with more that 10 rooms and not a marquee in site, any help would be much appreciated lol.
CommentAuthorLaurenC907
blimey 100 people?!!! big family. for a number that size you are either going to have to cut down dramatically or find a hotel with a big enough room. me and h2b have reached the point where we get excited when people say they cannot come. i picked up a magazine many months ago, "your herts and beds wedding" it has loads of venues in it, i dont know if that would help you find something, also many of my h2bs friends are planning weddings too and they have started to offer to pay for their meal (not that we would dream in a million years of making them do so) which would help the cost of things??

We've brought our date forward to Summer of 2013 and its going to be a lot more smaller than we've first planned. Though i do need some help ladies.
We're going to have a wedding at a registry office, most likely either Ampthill, Biggleswade or Bedford but its hard to find somewhere where we can have the wedding breakfast and evening entertainment. Does anyone have any ideas of places?

CommentAuthorHobbitBeth
Please do. It'll most likely be the Bedford area, due to that being my hometown. I'm pretty sure we're going to try bring the date forward. That was a rough estimate of what we wanted when we were going to have a BIG wedding

CommentAuthorMrsK2b
Okay no problem :-) I will put links on your wall for you. Do you know how many people and do u know your budget? Would you like a sit down meal or a buffet. Did u want chair covers?
Sorry to ask so many questions xx

CommentAuthorHobbitBeth
It'll be around 60-70ish for a sit down meal :) our budget for the meal and evening reception is around £3500. Chair covers would be good. We'll be adding more people though for the evening reception :)

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum and have only just started planning my wedding. It's all very exciting!
I've got the venue sorted so am now focusing on the all-important wedding dress!
I'm from St Ives in Cambridgeshire and there's only one bridal shop in St Ives which I'm going to visit on Saturday. I believe there are a few places in Newmarket too but if anyone from the Cambridgeshire area has any dress recommendations, I'd be most grateful. I've seen some beautiful dresses on eBay but am wary about buying them without trying them on.
I may also be popping up for local florist, wedding transport and photographer recommendations. Thanks in advance. Did I mention I was excited? ;-)
