    Hi all
I'm getting married in August on a very small budget (of which I've just blown a huge chuck on my dress) so need some costs effective centrepieces that maybe could double as favours?

I loved the idea of a fishbowl with flowers and candles in but pricing them up I seem to be looking at around £60 for the insides and about the same for the bowls (for 7/8tables) which seems far too expensive.

Does anyone have any tips where I can get them cheaply, or alternative ideas? Today I saw vases filled with "old skool" sweets which I love the idea of but not sure if it will look cheap and tacky?

    Help - please!!??

    Thanks!

I think sweets is a fab idea, people will love it.

Another inexpensive alternative is a fruit bowl. Like this:

Sweet trees are quite popular at the moment (there is actually a thread on here that was made by Brilly (forum member) showing you how to DIY them). They look really effective and people can take the sweets off of the trees to eat and take home with them, plus they can work with any colour scheme as you can pick sweets to match it! xxx

I had sweets in my fish bowls with lights and organza. Have you looked locally into how much it would cost to hire them? I was going to buy but ended up hiring as the woman gave me a good price and I probs would have ended up paying more if I purchased everything myself.

Mine are foam flowers in vases from charity shops, and in the bottom will be some £1.99 battery operated fairy lights amongst some scrunched up opaque material to match the colour scheme.

Depends on your theme, but pebbles and shells look nice, as do pine cones. Big candles are available at a really good price from the big green supermarket - it's where I got mine.

You can get the bowls from cheap shops quite easily and they work out a good price, AND you could then sell them afterwards to get some of the money back!

the bowls for £2.99 are plenty big enough hun and you could put candles in with just some sand or even water beads if you wanted to go down that route, bay of e has then really cheap you just need to grow them in a bowl of water.

Set up a notification on the bay, thats what I did, did a search and then saved it so the bay sends me daily emails of new things listed. I ended up getting 8 hurricane vases in red (my theme) with candles, sand and mirror plates for a total of 99p!!!

4th April 2014 - I get married to my soul mate

i found a load of really pretty old glass medicine bottles at my Dad's house and have filled them with artifical flowers, total cost for 10 tables £4.98! I'm really pleased with them fits in with our 'rustic' theme and I'm a pharmacy tech so ties in with what I do x

How about a 3 tier cake stand with little organza bags filled with sweets on it, you could tie a little tag on each bag with peoples names :) You could also dot a few artificial flowers on there so it doesn't look bare when people take the sweets away

try the swedish homeware store... you might get glass bowls there, order some coloured glass beads and floating candles or get cheap flowers the day before wedding and ask venue to put flower heads in bowls for centre pieces xx

We had sweet trees for our centrepieces just under 3 weeks ago. I was worried it would look cheap & tacky too but it really really didn't! Honestly it looked fab, we didn't have the really big ones because I didn't want them to be 'in your face' if you know what I mean.. Ours were quite small but still very effective and they double up as favours too! :)

There's a photo of the tables in my "The Big Day!" photo album on my page xx

Sweet trees are very easy to make and look lovely. A pot/mini bucket, stick covered in ribbon, foam ball and sweets/lollies stuck in.

I also saw a pic of a simple pillar candle in the centre of a mirror plate (our venue provide those free, maybe yours will?) tea light candles around the edge and scatter crystals on the plate. Looked very effective
