h2b had a call from travel agents this morning saying our flights have changed to 24 hours before and is this ok! h2b told them no it wasnt as we are getting married on the saturday and that means we will have to get up at 3am on the sunday morning to get to gatwick for 6 and we cant do it!
they have said that they will phone back by 5 today to offer alternative flights but we will have to pay if these are more expensive!
so...i spoke to my sister who works in travel and she knows someone who works for the same company and have been told that we can not make that flight and to offer us another one which we will not pay for as it isnt our fault they have changed. apparently they can offer us another destination if they cant get us on the flights for no extra money. I can feel i will be having an arguement with them tomorrow!!

I would totally totally look into your consumer rights.
Please look into this as it would be a real shame for you to be bullied by the travel agent.
Search online to see who you can call to get some free advice.

thanks rhiannon...i have spoken to my sister whose friend works for same compnay and she has all my details and is looking into it for me. i have seen that there is a flight on the same day 3 half hours later from the same airport so i dont see why they cant get us on that.
We have been told not to pay any extra charges as it isnt our fault and we have got a contract with them which they can not break! going to be looking at my rights this afternoon once i have got my work for the day done. need to do as much research as poss before i go in there tomorrow!
h2b has told them we cant get the flight in the morning on the sunday. keeping my fingers crosses that they sort it tomorrow xx
And if they dont budge - tell them that you will tell everyone you know that they basically ruined your wedding (I mean they wont have exactly but just cause a stink!) They want to make sure you dont get them bad publicity - tell them that your 'family member' writes for the guardian or something. haha! :)

Ours have had to change our flights etc too as the company have changed the times from when we booked. We haven't been told that we have to pay extra though. Stick to your guns and they will soon sort it out for you.

h2b has just called me...all sorted!
we gare going to fly from east midlands airport instead of gatwick which is a further half to-hour from us but those flights are exactly the same times as we had, cheaper by £15 each and then we are going to stay in a hotel sunday night and and including 2 weeks car parking works out at £75 more when deducting the £30 if that makes sense!
longer journey but at least we wont have to go home for one night and we would have had to pay car parking at gatwick anyway. h2b gets all his diesel free aswell so not too bad in the end! xx

its annoying they do that... we had one where they were trying to book us in for the following morning but we refused.... they had failed to tell us that flights were subject to change and should the flight be during the wedding day it would be tough. Therefore, we are refusing to fly/cruise until a week ish after the ceremony to try and get around this.... i dont know they they have to change them after you book them. Its silly they were messing you about but at least its sorted now

we never got told that they were subject to change either and they knew it was our honeymoon and we couldnt fly earlier! my sister has managed to get the regional managers name/shop for me to complain and everything from her friend but obv i dont need to do that now!
Jo...im not sure how much just the parking is but we are staying at the thistle hotel the night before, and parking for 2 weeks for £125

This is one reason why I wouldn't book a honeymoon for very soon after the wedding: a lot of companies have it written into their T&Cs that they can change your flights, though usually if there is s difference of +/- 12 hours or more, they have to offer you a refund/alternative holiday if the changes don't suit you, which obv isn't suitable for a lot of people, esp if you have your heart set on a certain destination.
Just something to be aware of when you book: it is always worth reading the T&Cs as most of these things are covered, and if you choose not to read them, you don't have a leg to stand on: they don't have to inform you of all the different T&Cs, as the consumer the onus is on you to make sure you read them before making a booking.

jo: check on price comparison sites; sometimes if you book through another company rather than direct it's cheaper. It does depend on when you're travelling, how far in advance you book, and the type of parking you want (eg those further away will be more expensive), so there are a lot of variables.
When I've looked it's always been about £60 per week on average

we booked ours to go 2 days after and the travel agents knew this. we kknew the flight could change a few hours but 24hrs before it just stupid. it was impossible for us to get that flight! i dont think flight companies realise that people book to go away on a certain day for a reason! i have only ever had this problem with tc ever!

I just looked at their website and it's as I thought: a significant change to flight times is a difference of 12 hours or more, and in this circumstance they are obliged to offer you an alternative flight or holiday if possible, to the same value, refunding the difference if it is cheaper, or charging the difference if it is more expensive, or if this is unacceptable, give you a refund.
It is annoying, but it is quite clearly stated and all tour operators have this written into their T&Cs. Flight times can and do change, so when you book, you are never 100% guaranteed that specific flight time as it is subject to change. A change of 24 hours is unusual, but not unheard of, and with that in mind as I said I personally would allow a good few days between wedding and honeymoon to allow for this. I appreciate it's your honeymoon but they're a business and are out to make money, and simply won't care: they will just say, as they would to anyone, that it is in their T&Cs which you agreed to at time of booking.

When me and my h2b went to turkey last novemeber our travel company done this to us! they rang us 2 months before we were due to fly out and told us our flights from our choosen airport had been cancled we could either cancle our holiday, choose a different destination that flys from that airport or fly from gatwick!
Wasnt impressed as our chosen airport was only a hour drive from us!, all the alternative holidays & accomodation they were offering werent that nice. So in the end we had to fly from gatwick which meant a 4 1/2 hour drive to london to stay over night then a hour drive at 5am the next day, plus we had to then fork out a lovely £69 fee for parking there! Good times lol!

there is a bus from the thistle hotel to take you to the airport, runs about every 15 minutes, normally you leave your car at the thistle. my sil used to work there, and its a lovely hotel, but the bar prices are very steep :) x

i used to work at east midlands airport and havnt been there since i left so i imagine it is all changes now as they were doing work there when i worked there.
i managed to get some info from someone who works at tc and she said to me that although it says that in t & c you can refuse to pay the extra as it is their fault not yours and if that doesnt work ring the regional manager and put in an offical complaint. i think this would only work though if you were going on your honeymoon. this person told me that we had to be offered different flights free of charge or let us choose another holiday to the same value!

As we have changed our airport it has worked out cheaper so will actaully be saving money now which is good! glad that it is a nice hotel. not so good about the bar prices though! will have to remember to eat dinner some where else i think! xx

i am not sure about the prices of the meals, as when we went at christmas, it was a special deal, but the food was lovely, but i had a double tia maria and cranberry juice at the bar at it was £9.50, and i think it was almost £5.00 for a pint of beer :) x

i worked in travel a few years back, it was frustrating when the flights changed...for me mainly on familly holidays that id book and they purposely bookde day flight...then pooof a week before they are no night flights!!! aaaarrggghhhh!
thats why i left and now work for a specific coffe shop haha
