I'm appealing to you all to ask if you or any one you know has any spare supplies of baby wool? My MIL knits tiny cardigans and hats for premature babies for the local hospitals in Birmingham. They are something that is very much needed as most mums do not accept their babies to be so small when they arrive. They are so cute and adorable.

For years the MIL has paid for all the wool out of her own pocket (£1.00 a ball does about two items) but I was wondering if anyone knew of any charities that can supply it or if there is anyone generous enough to help out and donate wool. It does have to be baby wool rather than being any kind. Any advice or donations (in wool not cash) would be grateful.

My mum's friend was told to stop making blankets and cardigan's etc for the prem baby unit at our local hospital's as they had too much stuff! I couldn't believe it.. She went in to take a bag of stuff she had made and they said that they couldn't take it as they were over whelmed with it all already, as a lot of stores like Mothercare and even George at Asda do premature baby clothes and previous prem baby mum's had been donating everything.

It's such a lovely thought though, a very kind thing to do!

That is crazy. Where abouts was that. My MIL got told by one hospital they couldn't take them anymore due to hygiene rules?????? But then there are some others that are screaming out for them.

thats fantstic hun, i know exactly what you mean and wish our hospital had more prem baby items, my daughter was born 6wks early and only weighed 5lbs she was like a tiny doll so the newborn bits couldn't fit her and although mothercare sells nice things my h2b spent £50 and only managed to get a few bits for her.... unfortunatly i don't know anyone who has wool but how about asking the craft shops that sell baby wool to discount her for the amount she needs or something? xx

Bristol and Bath. All of the maternity hospitals said they couldn't take them due to hygiene and the normal hospital's with special baby unit's said they couldn't take them as they already had far too much.

My mum's friend get's her wool from hobbycraft, they normally give her a discount and give her extra ball's free, also John Lewis do the same.

If you are on fb you could put out an appeal there. I have knitted hats, booties, cardies, etc for premature babies before and its definitely a good thing and usually really appreciated too.
