The plan with our cake is to get a few friends to each bake a layer. One of my friends makes a courgette cake which is gorgeous and unique, another, Esther, has the recipe for the Guinness cake that was made at their wedding. Kate, who made the Guinness cake at Esther's wedding, sadly died of cancer and when H2B joined the choir, which Kate was in and Esther and her husband and I are in, we were singing in her memory, so it's a nice touch. Then we've got a few other friends who like baking, and we'll ask one of them to make a gluten free cake, another to make a chocolate one (this should be reasonably safe for the children), and another to make a fruit cake. We're planning to get them professionally decorated, and get a stand that allows them to be displayed as separate layers, as stacking them may be a bit risky.

Elidor that is a lovely idea. We made my cake as a family, which was lovely and I am decorating it with MIL2B.

My bug bear at the minute is I have very few acceptances and what feels like 100 declines (for various reasons). Feel like so much money is going on one day and no one will be there. Both my aunties aren't coming, h2b's brother and sister aren't, his aunties haven't responded yet... now I'm struggling to find things to complain about so hopefully that means I have my bride zila calmed for the evening! Lol

That's ok, I like Elidor. Sounds like someone from Lord of the Rings. Maybe for my first daughter ...

We're not getting many RSVPs at the moment at all, so many people think it's unnecessary. Either they think it's obvious that they are coming, or they think that has they're not there's no need to respond, even though there's a box for "regretfully decline".

I thought the same re Elidor lol.

That cake sounds awesome! I think it's lovely that different people are getting involved and doing what they do best :-) I do agree with not stacking it though, esp as one tier is gluten-free.

Have you thought how you might decorate it?

We're thinking alternating blue and white icing, with the logo that we've got on the stationary around the side in the opposite colour. H2B's mum printed something out for us, I must remember to get it from him and scan it so that I can send it to the people we want quotes from.

It's blue and silver mainly, although the bridesmaids dresses have ivory in them. There's also champagne in my dress, and I think the flowers will include white as well as blue. I was looking at the flowers in the church for the Easter vigil service, which were simply whites with greenery, and they were gorgeous. We might put silver ribbons round the cakes, just to set the blue off.

Loving the look of your cake Elinor! I still need to go and see my cake lady at some point! I bought a new tiara yesterday as I saw it and fell in love with it! It was a bit pricey but I couldn't resist! We have also now finished all of our invites with just 4 evening ones left to post on Monday. Have had around 24 RSVP's back but still waiting for an awful lot more! Xxx

Can't upload pictures from my phone, I'll put them up on Monday. Ordered H2B's ring today. Now I must get on the backs of the cake decorating people for quotes. We've found too people that will decorate cakes baked elsewhere, but neither seems great and reading and responding to messages. Potentially next time we both have a free day we'll go to the shop of one of them.

Do you have any pics of the tiara Linzi? I still haven't decided what to do about hair accessories; I have a cathedral-length veil so I don't know if I need anything extra for the day, so the original plan was to just slide something in once I've taken the veil out. But I love some of the side tiaras and headbands that I've seen so I don't know! Problem is my head is abnormally small (as in, if we go ziplining I have to wear the child's hats; the smallest hats at my graduation were still too big and had to be pinned; etc lol) so it's hard to find one that actually fits :-s

Elinor: your hair and make-up are fab! The make-up looks so flawless, yet so natural. Must say I'm really impressed, bet you're really pleased :-)

Definitely. It doesn't look like I have make-up on, which is what I was after, as I don't normally wear make-up and I want to look like me. Airbrush is definitely worth considering for a flawless look.

Linzi: that's gorgeous! And OMG, I LOVE that necklace!

Elinor: I hear you on wanting it to look natural. I do wear make-up, but not a huge amount: natural, light foundation, bronzer, and mascara, and that's it (and recently I've not been wearing foundation much to let my skin breathe a bit). I don't have my trial until June 10th so just praying she gets it right; the only bit I want to be more dramatic is my eyes, to make them stand out; otherwise I don't want to look like I'm caked in make-up :-s

I'm having my hair trial tomorrow. I have saved some photo ideas on my phone, but I really don't know how to have it. I love my hair, and it is long. A part of me is thinking of a partial up do, but the styles I see look like I can do them myself. I really love the look of some full updo's, but that would leave me with none of the length I love. All I know is, I want some height on the back half of the top of my head

clairenina: maybe try a few different things? Also re partial updos, though they might look really simple, in practice they might not be; I find it hard to get lots of body for eg that is a) smooth and not obviously back-combed lol or b) stays in place for 12 hours plus (though I don't know what styles you're looking at). I also think it can be nice to have someone do it for you as it just takes the stress and worry out of it eg I wouldn't say I'm bad at doing my make-up, but I'd worry I'd get stressed on the day and it would go wrong, so I'd rather leave it to a professional who should hopefully get it right!

That sounds lovely claire, do you have any pics?

Small update from me: went to order OH's suit last week to discover that he can't get the one we thought he could (basically a semi-made to measure suit where they take very basic measurements) that takes 5-6 weeks, and instead he needs to go for the fully made-to-measure one which takes 6-8 weeks! They didn't have any appointments either until 21st May, cue me throwing a minor hissy fit. He has literally not had to do anything when it comes to the wedding, the TWO things he is responsible for was getting his suit (I'd suggested he go in March so we had plenty of time), and ask the groomsmen to be in the bridal party. Well he only asked the groomsmen about a month ago (!), and now we're going to be picking up his suit less than 3 WEEKS before the wedding! Really not happy; I wanted as much as possible out of the way by the beginning of July >-(

On a brighter note, I paid the deposit on my wedding ring today and am pretty excited about that, and we've booked our pre-wedding shoot in for 6th June; we're having it in Camden and I can't wait!

Well, we have all our first-wave RSVPs back, yay! Also ordered OH's suit, he's gone for a 3 piece and I can't wait to see it!

I also finally bought a hair slide for the evening (good all D'hams blue cross sale!) and a lovely pearl and diamond bracelet; I saw it a while ago but it was £200 so thought I'd wait, went in yesterday and it was down to £150 so decided to buy it, then they put it through the till and there was another 15% off so we paid £127.50. It's lovely and I'll be able to wear it again afterwards as it's a very simple, classic style :-D

3 months on Friday for me too....

Elinor Clair - I like your hair and what a lovely idea for your wedding cake. I have had a trial but need to go back for another.

We have our pre-wedding shoot in 3 weeks and then that's it for the photographer until the day itself.

Finally got the BM dresses sorted and the florist booked. We now need to buy my grandchildren their outfits but waiting till June/July just in case they grow. h2b found a suit to hire so needs to order that - d'hams .. I am now on the hunt for ties/hankies etc to match the bm dresses and can see me taking one with me when I am out shopping.

I still need a few deckchairs and play sand and then that's about all that is needed to finish the decorations at the venue.

we have had a few replies but gave everyone till end of June but I will contact those who haven't replied somtime during the month.
in some ways there seems to be lots of time and lots to do but in reality its rather near and its just smaller things to sort. Saying that though just remembered rings are needed !!!

Less than three months now. Suddenly very close. I'm finding it quite strange that I'm suddenly at the point of organising dress fittings, contacting suppliers to confirm and make payments, and chasing up RSVPs. For so long all of that has been somewhere off in the distance, but it's happening now.

Tried my dress on again this weekend! Photos are on my profile if anyone wants a look. Still waiting for some RSVP's but have a bit of a predicament in chasing them up and need some advice! Basically, the ones we are all waiting for lost their mum/nan two weeks ago and we have her funeral tomorrow. Obviously I understand why they haven't replied to us but we need to give our venue final numbers in two weeks time, but I feel really insensitive asking them for them. What should I do? Xxx

I would leave it as long as you dare, so it doesn't feel like you're jumping in as soon as the funeral is done. Maybe wait until the beginning of next week, when they might be returning to work and starting to get back to normal.

We paid off our balances of monies owed yesterday. What a relief. It was the remainder of the venue balance & the DJ. £1300 lighter now though :( They only things we need to buy are my bouquet & 6 buttonholes. My alterations to dress, and some sweets for the buffet.

What a relief, I think we can relax now and look forward to the day.
