I was reading comments today by Mark Niemierko (wedding planner extraordinaire) saying that he recommends not doing favours unless you're really going to town on them. I'm not sure I agree with that, but I wondered again whether it's worth having favours.

Grant's offered to make loads and loads and loads of fudge to give as favours and to print paper bags with our wedding logo to match, but if you were a wedding guest, would you mind if there were no favours?

As a guest it wouldn't bother me at all at a wedding if there were no favours as you don't have to have them and I don't look for them when I attend a wedding. xx

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. As we all know being brides to b, the cost just gets out of control so I suppose it is just what you are comfortable with. My h2b has changed his mind after buying favour boxes which were quaint little seats that would double as place setting names (cost about £60 from usa) and then decided he wanted vodka minatures only after buying the bottles being so shocked at how much it would cost to fill them! Thankfully we hadn't gone and bought the dragees to go in the boxes or that would've been more wasted money. To attempt to make up for it he then suggested that we give both.... Honestly, men! haha.

If you do decide to give favours I think the fudge is a brilliant idea, will be cost effective and a truly "from the heart" gift to your guests as it was made especially for them. :-D

Im in 2 minds about having favours or not. I see it as a way of cutting down on something that we could easily do without and i really doubt that anyone would mind if they didnt get one but then again i do want to make something. I have to admit that since matthew has proposed to me i have been looking out for them when we have been invited to someones wedding and taking notes on everything that they have just incase i like something or i have missed or not thought of something lol

we did favors for our guests when we held our party back in the UK and loads were left behind i would say unless they were something very personal and extravagant i wouldn't bother most people don't look for them or even take them home and the ones that want them will take other stuff as a memento ( people took our centre pieces lol with permission ) xx

I wouldn't be upset at all - in fact, every wedding I've ever been to hasn't had them. We're not bothering either. After all, we're spending enough on feeding everyone and providing wine so I don't think they'll miss them really.

I wouldn't mind in the slightest. i've been to several wedding where there weren't any favors.

I was dead set against having any favors for ours - my mum told me that I HAD to have them, when I asked her why she said "they will be expected" What kind of a reason is that? I don't understand why we invite people to have the honor of being part of our day, we feed them, we give them drinks AND then we also have to give them a present! It makes no sense at all to me!!

The last 3 weddings I have been to havent had them but I am having them because I want to. We are having fortune telling fish because we met on plenty of fish a lotto ticket to give people wealth and some just married rock sweets because I thought they were cute lol

We are also having if I get time to make them chocolate lolly pops with peoples names on as their table place setting.

    xx

I do think favours are a bit of a waste of money, and considering your paying for everyones meal I dont think they need a gift as well. However, we did the cancer research favours as I think that is money well spent. Everyone that was at our wedding had lost a loved one to cancer, so it went down very well with the guest and they were all over the moon.

We probably arent doing favours we having been looking at the cost and feel the amount our day is costing why do we have to buy everyone a gift aswell. I went to a wedding last year where they had a silhouette artist doing pictures of everyone. I thought that was amazing she did us a lovely pic of the 2 of us and another one of both children. Everyone thought it was a great idea.

    Going to become Mrs Stockman

It wouldn't bother me at all Hun. Your guests will be happy to be sharing the day with you and getting a free meal lol, so I think favours are a bonus - but not expected.

We are having little matchbooks for the men (£8 on th bay), organza bag with 3 choccys (£1 each from chocolate for choccyholics), and Barbie activity packs for the little girls and Ben10 activity packs for the boys (approx £20 for all), so we are spending approx 80 quid on favours, but i'm sure they'll be someone who isn't happy with the gift - there's always one lol !!

Only do favours if you really want to, don't be influenced by anyone else Hun,

It wouldn't bother me not to have favours at a wedding I went to. we were given little tubes of love hearts at a wedding I went to last week. For our wedding we're having crackers that are doubling up as place names. I've bought some bubbles to go in them only because they were dead cheap due to the box being damaged, then just going to put jokes and facts inside. May just buy some little sweets or a couple of boxes of ferrero rocher type things and pop one in each cracker.

I personally wouldn't mind at all but if there is home made fudge on offer then I would say Invite me! hahahaha

I disagree with what he says and think that it doesn't matter what you give it is the thought that counts and if they are so stuck up that it does then they shouldn't be there. Its your wedding day to share love to one another not to feed and give the guests lots of stuff.

If you would like me to sample some of the home made fudge to see if it makes the grade then my adress is

I voted yes.... But not necessarily because I would be bothered by not having a favour, but on the opinion of a guest.

I attended a wedding last week which before I even bought a drink cos me around £350 to go to, by the time I had bough H2B and myself new outfits, transport to and from there venue ect. Oh and the present. So were as I kno us as couples are payiing loads for our day. Our guests are still paying a fair amount to attend our weddings and a favour to me... is a small thank you for going to such effort to be apart of their/our special days.

I don't think cost should matter either. Jo I'm also having home made tablet and fudge :D that my friends are making for me and I think that most people will be happy to recieve it.

Sorry to have a conflicting view from most but just wanted to put it from another angle.

i understand where you are coming from little miss weegie, but i think you have put on the party, the venue the meal the decorations etc etc... as a guest i go to the wedding to witness the wedding itself and or to celebrate with the happy couple.

i wouldnt be bothered in the slightest of there were no favours, like i said its not the freebeies i am going for, it is the wedding itself. I think a nice speech thanking your guests for joining you means a lot more than a bag of sugared almonds lol....although i have to admid (maybe a bit condraditing myself in a way but...) a home made favour does give a lovely personal touch that means somthing to the guests.....so sorry if that is as helpful as a slap around the face with a wet fish lol
